QUAKE I LEVEL ARCHIVES

Welcome to the Quake1 Level Archives here at the Apocalypse. The levels posted here are older levels which served their time in the spot light. But like anything, something better is bound to come along. As a result what was once the best, eventually fades into memory. The archive here has a listing of all the levels the Apocalypse has reviewed since it's opening last year. Scan around here for old time sake.

After doing many CTF levels, Tony turned his hand to DM. What a great level too! IT's a small fairly semetrical and flat map, but it does interesting work with elevation by incorpating 'ladders' and jump pads. New and origianl idea. Not to mention this level looks quite nice and well. Check it out! 2-4 players. FULL REVIEW

This level is highy remnicinet of UkoolDM6, which I think is a 'tidbit' better. Anyway, this level is VERY professinal looking, using excellent architecture, lighting, and a few new texctures that blend seemlessly with the level. The layout is excellent to. Not much more to say about a super level, let the frags begin! 3+ people

Whowsers, what a great level. It looks basically like a bomb went off inside DM4. It has a similar style to that level (although bigger), and uses some of the most awesome looking custom textures ever. This level is terrific. The onyl problem may be that the level is a little too dark, and that sometimes the textures feel a little overdone in the lighter areas. Nonetheless, a solid map. FULL REVIEW

I always look forward to Adriano's levels. Each one has it's own style, yet has a great solid feel to it with excellent gameplay. Some of his maps may be a little dull looking (like this one) but what it lacks in looks, it has in gameplay. Wonderful level featuring some great engagement spaces. A little large for my taste though. 4-12 players. FULL REVIEW

Ztn is becoming one of the elite Quake map authors out there. His levels just get better and better. Ztndm2 is a great level. It has a large 'verticle' layout with many defined floors. The level is designed around two 3-4 floored atriums connected by halls/teleporters. The item layout is excellent. The only draw back is that the level looks kinda rough. 3-6 players. FULL REVIEW

I've neglected posting this level till I tried it on the net. Whow! This level rocks. It was a killer layout and gibs WILL be flying high and far. Item placement for good weapons is bountiful so everyone usually has a super nail gun or better. Very fast play with 4+ people. I mean 'very' fast. This level rocks and rolls.

The Crew series DM maps don't have the best gameplay, but they certainly posses their own unique look and feel. Every map has it's own custom texture job that creates it's own atmosphere. The architeture is clean and smooth, and the lighting is great. again, the only downside is the lacking gameplay. 3-8 players. FULL REVIEW

Yet another oled classic map. Has nice new texure job and some excellent lighting. This map actually won my first DM Map competition I hosted about 2 years ago. Since then its been outdone. Even so, this is a great map. Has a rather large layout, but it takes advantage of height and cover, and is connected with a few teleporters. 3-8 players. FULL REVIEW

Great level by Kunani. Basiacally take DM4, triple its size, add a whole lot more, and this is what you get. This sprawling level os halls, lifts, chambers, and water passages will you have leaping about every which way in a blood thirsty frenzy. With 8 or less people, you're going to have one hell of frag fest. The layout is excellent, as is weapon placement. The only real downer is that it's pretty blan to look at. Otherwise, this level kicks ass!

Another VERY good level. It has some of the most wonderful architexture. The stairs feel like some gothic building. Basically this level is bassed around a large central circular room that has the stairway halls going around it. Branching of are tons of ledges and so forth. A really excellent layout. Good lighting and texture choices to. Best for at least 4+. If your playing with about 8 this level just gets crazy. Ledges are fun to sniper from.

Ztndm3 is not as good as ZTN's other dm maps, but it's still a strong map nontheless. Used the Gloom Keep texturing (which I personally don't like) and has so-so lighting and architecue. The gameplay isn't anything to write home about, but it's a solid average level. Check it out and frag some people. 3-6 people. FULL REVIEW

Arma is pretty phat level. It is basically a semi flat two layered complex, with lots of elevated walkways and such. It has a grainy feel to the textures which is kinda cool. This is without a doubt the funkiest map ever devised. It's basically a large square room with about 5 diffrent floors connected by ramps, lifts, platforms, staris etc. In addition there is network of water troughs, waterfalls and lava pool. The word 'jungle' accurately discribes this map. It's dark, crampes, and has some spooky lighting to really get you freaked out. Only draw back is that it's inherent nature tends to stiffle head to head fights. 3-8 players. FULL REVIEW

Probebly the best 32 player level I've seen to date. It has some wonderful architecture, great engagement areas, and a terrific layout. Backed up with varried texture areas, and excellent lighting, this is one hell of a level. The only down side is that it runs pretty chunky, and gameplay becomes horribly slow before you even fill it up to the 32 player brim! Good level though.

This level was hot stuff when it came out. It was one of the first real high quality looking levels, which goes to show in that the author was hired by id. Anyway, the level design was very centralized, and also added the 'trap' element to the game. With lava and crushers in just the right amount, this level quickly became renown for being both a wonder to behold, and rush to play. Great level. Pretty dark and spooky too...

This is an excellent, with great looks, and a wonderful level. Only problem is that it has out lived its time. In any event, the level has a typical blue wall texture job (which is done well and combined with some tech walls) and a very resepctive layout that keeps people moving aorund. One nice thing is the underwater sewer area. It's flooded with water at the right depth to look cool, but not obstruct gameplay. Terrific work Mancer!

Central Park West has abosulty nothing to do with the Big Apple. In any event, this is a pretty large level, which usually means there isn't much detail. Wrong! This level was actually concidered by many to be one of the best maps around. I agree that it's goot, but it isn't really my style. The level plays flat because there are no effective verticle differences for combat. So it just plays dull. On the other hand, the level impliments common textures very well, and has some great architecutral touches that spice up it's visual appeal. Not a bod map, just not great. 3-8 players. FULL REVIEW

The hidside dm level from level lord is simply amazing. It has a base/chemical plant feeling to it, with all these big pipe's and eletrical stations. It looks great! Very respectful base theme (which I'm usually sick of lookig at, but not here!) In any event, there are TON's of rocket launchers, and megahealths. However, the level is very large with 3 or 4 huge chamberous areas where the action takes place. Simply a wonderful level.

CrewDm2 was a level with alot of potential and a great atmosphear, but unfotunetly was lacking on gameplay. It just wasn't as interesting it looked. This is a pretty fly level if I do say so. It has a very good layout, dark and spooky lighting and a really good atmosphere. It is basically a squarish level with 'garden' type rooms in the coners. Kndybase was Kndymans first quake map, and not to mention the fact that this level litterally redefined the potential of level editing. Prior to this map, levels were fairly simply and dull. This level incorprated new textures, a new theme, and a gameplay style to die for. The is very open, but everything is in just the right proportions that it all works equisitly. Originally a SP level, the Elektra Complet also proved to an excellent deathmatch map. NexDm1 is a rather nifty level, that does play fairly well dispite a simple design. The level as a whole is very dark, fairly flat, and very tight. The halls are all narrow, and the open rooms are still ver cramped. However, this gives a very unique feeling game. With 2 or three people alot of suspence builds up until your startled by the sounds of gunfire aorund the corner. The level has fairly simple architecture, but since it's so dark you hardly need complet detail, as you wouldn't be able to see it. All quite phat.

This is a 32 player level, and compared to most 32 player levels it's better than the avarage! It looks good, however it isn't amazing like some levels. It plays plenty fast and has a nice and dark lighting theme, however some areas could stand for improvment. The item placement is also a little odd. There are a ton of rocket launchers, yet not many weaker guns which is to bad. The level's layout is quite good however, and with all the ledges and such, you'll be getting fragged from thin air. There are tons of dark ledges to gib people from above. Quite entertaining, especially with 15 reaper bots :)

This level is totally kick ace! It hasn't got very 'good' reviwes from other sites but I like it alot. Maybe it's just beacuse it's the first level tested with the reaper bot (which this level rocks with). I'm used to having 4 BG bots, so this is the first man vs. one bot level I've done. It's awesome. There isn't really and spectatular architechture by anymeans, but nor are there any bod looking spots. It's a very open level with lots of walk ways and big platforms. Dakyne is another very well known level, paticually for it's AMAZING lighting job. The lighting is all natual (sky lights etc), and really looks cool. Uuing the highly overdone DM4 style, this level doesn't really appeal to me that much. Although the layout and looks are good, it is a little out of proportion in my opinion. Basically the level is two seperate sections with 3 teleporters connecting them, there's lots of ammo and so forth, but the level seams to be missing a little something. Best with 4+ players, pretty cool level.

This is a level that was VERY nicly converted from Doom 2, and is a level that well, I was quite fond of in my Doom2 days. It's a high roofed Area type area with tons of stairs and platforms surrounding the room. Thse little platforms take you up into tiny rooms loaded with all kinds of goodies. everyhtings open so there's no place to hide. Try getting 16 people in this one! Major slow down though, but it's crazy fun! 3+ players
