Penumbra: Overture goes open source!

Not related to Quake, but to a nice horror survival engine, Penumbra: Overture goes open source. I’ve only played the second part of the series, Black Plague, but this addition to the open-source market is remarkable.

Here is a link to the public repository for the Penumbra game and the HPL1 engine: http://github.com/FrictionalGames

Here’s a trailer for Penumbra: Overture.

And an early tech-demo from 2006:

For historical purposes only, I decided to mirror the original game sources from Frictional Games:

  • HPL1 Engine Source – Initial Release (2010-05-13): [Download not found]
  • Headers and Library Dependencies for building (2010-05-13): [Download not found]
  • OpenAL C++ Wrapper built and used for the Penumbra series (2010-05-13): [Download not found]

Make sure to read the included license and visit http://github.com/FrictionalGames/ for latest source updates.
