Big Fuzzy Focus: Annihilation
Pappy-R takes a long look at the Annihilation mod for Quake 3: Arena by interviewing some of the team, and getting some excellent screenshots.
  — by Pappy-R

Annihilation scoreboard.

After some of the things I was hearing about the development of the Annihilation project for Quake III, I just had to get a better look. The team was gracious enough to let me right in on their inner most secrets and breakthroughs, allowing me to bring them to you now. In the following text and screenshots, you're going to get a very sweet peek into what this mod will bring to Q3A players. It's more than just realism mod, as these projects have been called.

The Annihilation team is aiming to bring you the action you crave with atmosphere, weapons and new features based on the second world war. The player models, maps and weapons just scream with authenticity of the time they are meant to portray, making the play a richer experience for everyone that will grab the files. Let's look at the team and accomplishments so far in an interview I recently held with two of the project's leaders, Cynic and Kalifa.

PQ: Stand right up and introduce yourselves to the readers and let them know what you do on the project.

Kalifa: Well, I'm Kalifa, second leader for our mod. I code and I code and I... I actually code so much that you can say it twice. I'm a 17-year-old guy, from Sweden.

Cynic: I'm Cynic and from Germany. I'm project leader along with Kalifa. At the age of 19 I'm mainly there to do the modeling and animations for Annihilation. Besides that, I manage files and interviews.

PQ: How long has Annihilation been in the works?

Kalifa: About four months. Annihilation is actually a merger of two mods. Soviet VS Germany (where I was leader) and Annihilation (Cynic as leader). Oh, there was another mod to, Armed Services was dying and so, most of their members jumped onto Annihilation. By that time SvG and Annihilation had already merged.

PQ: So since the drawing together of the teams, has the project grown in planned features?

Kalifa: Well, if you ask me, I would say that Annihilation is growing every second.

Cynic: It certainly has. Just a few days ago, the drivable motorcycle code has been implemented by Kalifa

One of the many unique features: DRIVEABLE MOTORCYCLES!

Kalifa: It was just something that popped up into our minds a few weeks ago.

Cynic: It's a feature that wasn't even spoken of before. Now it'll already appear in BETA 1.

PQ: OK..I tried to hold off on the motorcycle, but it's too big to let sit for long. How did that come about and end up in the project?

Kalifa: Well, I was in Quake3Mods chat room and, I talked to ]missi[ from the Full Metal Jacket mod. We were talking about our mods, and how we'd love to work with each other, because we both look up to each others work. So, then I came to think of vehicles, and I really love motorcycles, (they're damn cool) so I asked ]missi[ if we couldn't code motorcycles together. He said, HELL YEAH! that would fit into fmj, so we started coding them. It went better than we thought and it's already almost finished code.

Next, more about the motorcycles!
