PlanetQuake Celebrates Seven Years Of Ownage!
It's been seven frag filled years, and we're ready for more!

The original, modem crushing PlanetQuake!

Time flies when you're having fun, and that means time around PlanetQuake has flown by like a Concord on Bawls! It's at times like this that you stop and take note of what's gone on through the years and that's when it seems like it's been alot longer than seven years. Hell, I've only been here for just over four years and that seems longer than seven years when you see all that the community has wrought. It's mind numbing really. This is such a fast paced, living, breathing and screaming community that each year seems like several. Action, you want action? The Quake community has always set the standards for raw power, clever twists and the creative juices that now even power some of the development houses we all see as the source of our glee.

It's been an incredible ride and as we look to celebrate the fourth year of the last Quake to hit our harddrives, we also look to the future, and the fourth installment of this amazing game series. With the lack of relationship between the games for plot and story, let's be honest, could any other title keep rocking the sales charts and online player numbers like the Quake series? We're about to get our first real sequel, from Quake 2 to Quake 4, and it's the Strogg we'll be battling in the upcoming Quake, so let's get ready to really nail'em this time. PlanetQuake will be right here kicking out the goods like we've always done and bringing players the juice on the new game as it happens, and what the community does with the game. It's all about the game for the players around here, and baby, we've got game!

There's been a ton of names that passed through the doors of PQ over the years. Some on their way somewhere else in the gaming industry, and some that have stayed and helped develop the GameSpy Network of sites, services, tools and resources into the best of the best. My hat's off to the guys that started it off. Mark "The Freshmaker" Surfas gets a big hand of course for starting the whole thing and then bringing on other names that have become legends in the online gaming circles. Names like Fragmaster, Fargo, void, dweoner, Gestalt, Lowtax and Hellchick. There's been so many more who have contributed over the years, and while I can't possibly properly thank each one of them here, check out the PlanetQuake News Archive to see all there was to see over the years. It's an amazing resource with so many years under it's belt!

Take a look at the past, get ready for the future, but don't forget your frags in now! Here's to seven years of PlanetQuake, cheers! Long may it remain "The Epicenter of Everything Quake"!

For more PlanetQuake history, check out "Fargo's Two Year Revolution" from way back in 1998, my article from 2000's fourth birthday celebration, "At Age Four, PQ Can Walk, Talk, and Kick Ass!" and the bonus Interview with Mark "The Freshmaker" Surfas!

Cheers all!

PQ Birthday Wallpaper Contest!

Although people had just a few days to contribute and possibly score the goods in our contest, we got some great works in, and it's time to share! Our winning entry was from Quest who made his design of exactly what PQ is all about, the community. This message echoed in my head, overshadowing the colourful and impressive graphics of our other great entries to become our Birthday Pic of the Day, winning Quest a two month subscription to the GameSpy Network Founders Club! Thanks for the entries gang, now check'em out, and if youy want the whole pack in their original resolutions, you can grab that right here!
