PQ Arena - Come Get Some!
It's about time PlanetQuake had its own map!
  — by Pappy-R and Hellchick

Timing is Everything

You love the Planet, now play the map!
My old clan buddy RD|Bugbear usually ICQ's me a "good morning" everyday, and this is funny in itself since my mornings are his late afternoons. Per E. Andersen, or "Bugbear" to his Web pals, is from Norway so for the rest of this piece, keep our time difference in mind since it was a twist for us to get used to in our communication on this project.

Bugbear is a level designer on the Valhalla Q3A project and hasn't released a major piece yet, but has loved getting his hands dirty in the new Q3Tools. One morning he mentioned he had made on "area" or room that had a couple halways coming off of it and asked if I'd like to see a pic of it. My answer was a big yes, since as you are all becoming aware, I'm a new map junkie. After seeing the screenshot I asked if I could see the area as a .bsp since what I'd seen struck a chord in me. After I saw the area in 3D i was hooked and told Bugbear that if he wanted to turn it into a full piece I'd give him any advice or testing time I could.

Well, that was it, and off he went creating areas to romp in and sending them to me to test and twist to make them play in a set style. Now I haven't touched an editor since Worldcraft, so we would explore the versions together to smash our ideas together, and he would then apply the changes to the map. I told Bug I had wanted to make a level for PlanetQuake and that if this one turned out, perhaps we could dedicate it to PQ for a special event coming up, which was our just past "Map Week". The level was tweaked, and tweaked, and the end result is what we think is some amazingly fun DM action that flows quite well. Now it's here for you and it's name is PQ Arena. The author's name is Bugbear and I'm sure if you grab this level, you won't be inclined to forget it. We both hope you all enjoy it and we have some special plans for this Quake III map. The level has bot and Q3A menu support for ease of use.

Take on PQ!

No badgers were harmed in the making of this photo.

You think you have the stuff to take us on at our home turf? We'll give you the chance to see if you can pull it off. This week we'll announce a time when Hellchick, Pappy-R, and anyone else from the Planet will jump on the PQ server and give you a chance to show us up at the game we've dedicated every waking moment of our lives to. At the end of the game, if you win, we'll throw a T-shirt, a hat, or possibly even a crazed badger with a green GameSpy logo spraypainted on his fur at you! (PQ won't take responsibility for said badger's actions, however.)

Just watch the PQ news and this space for our challenge. And if you're one of the lucky ones to dethrone us (hey, we're humble), then your name will be up in lights (er, sort of) on PQ!

To grab the PQ map, just download it from FilePlanet, and then extract it into your baseq3 directory. It's that simple!
