Top Ten Reasons Quake 2 Rocks!
Last time worked too well to try and stop a good thing, this time Pappy-R and Ash take a crack at what makes Quake 2 Rock.
  — by Pappy-R and Ash

And he jumps the slant for extra inches! He makes it!
#5 - Trick Jumping

Pappy-R: Some say flaws, some say fun, but the facts remained. Some wild jumping tricks were possible in Quake 2 that added new fun and use to most of the levels ever created.

Ash: No joke, it was a blast to try and figure out all the cool jump tricks. I'm just glad I wasn't the Q2 guy, because I know I shattered that guy's shins a hundred times trying to hop up crates.

There's a whole lot of love in this room. Love for what? Dead marines, I think.
#4 - The Strogg

Ash: Quake 2 was the first time since DOOM that we were delivered an entirely original storyline that worked. Quake was kind of hodgepodge, but the Strogg War was an environment to be lived in.

Pappy-R: Bastards! Try to take over the earth and use us for everything from food to spare parts... I loved'em! Anyone else remember the first time a "medic" revived a fallen Strogg? Too freaking cool!

Ah, memories of the party in the round.
#3 - Q2DM1 (The Edge)

Pappy-R: Oh the Edge, one of the most purely balanced levels for 1v1 play in almost any game ever. The level's size and weapon layout was perfect. Excuse me while I go relive a classic.

Ash: Why is it that every mention of a classic level leaves me here to type commentary by myself while Pappy "relives"? Anyway, ya, what he said. Q2dm1 was everything that a deathmatch map should be. Period.

id Software does CTF, ah yeah!
#2 - Official CTF

Ash: The official CTF pack was a milestone in game types. For the first time a mod was deamed good enough to be considered "part of the game," and developed by The Company themselves.

Pappy-R: Well, they did hire Zoid, the man who made CTF famous in Quake 1, so that was a great move. Having CTf as part of a Single Player game pointed out just how much attention the online gaming end was getting. Pappy-R has the Blue Flag!

And the moment you've all been waiting for...

Insta-gibblets. The way it was always meant to be.
#1 - The Railgun

Pappy-R: The introduction of this weapon was momentus. One hit was usually one kill, but required such accuracy. The spin shot, the flick rail, the mid air rail...classics. All hail...da Rail!

Ash: I'm hailing, that's for sure. The rail gun was the temple to skill. Some would argue that the rail gun is too powerful, if it weren't for the fact that it took SO much accuracy to wield well. Ph34r the rail, for it is the sword of the l33t.

Pappy-R: While we hail da rail, and everything else that made Quake 2 stand out as a major breakthrough in the evolution of the FPS, and multiplayer gaming, you can tell us what you thought of the Top Ten by giving us your Feedback. We have some Top Ten topics already lined up for the coming weeks, but send your ideas on in, you can never have too many kool ideas.
