PQ Mailbag

More... Well, Less Of The Same

Lee'Mon: Well, for the third week, we all gather 'round for the PQ Mailbag. For the third week, I'm here (with L33t'M0n, as usual), and for the third week, our mailbag pickings have been a bit slim. Guess it's about time to bust an editorial in this joint...

L33t'Mon: There was basically two types of emails this week. Emails about the latest chapter of "Generations," and emails letting lemon-head and myself know just how much we suck at the PQ Mailbag. Unfortunately, in true lamer fashion (takes one to know one, you see), all the flame mails asked that they not be in the mailbag, so they wouldn't have to increase its content. So, what will I rant about? You'll have to wait and see...

Lee'Mon: Well, I guess that leads us with one main topic:

Generations Lives!

Yes, I'm tooting my own damn horn here, but it's all you wrote about! After a far greater delay than I had hoped for, "Generations" Chapter 8 was unleashed to the masses! Before it was released, my Inbox was flooded with letters asking one simple thing: "When is Chapter 8 coming out?" Now that it's out, however, the response appears to be loud and clear:

From: Ragnarok
Subject: Generations - Chapter 9, c'mon!

Lee'mon, you have chosen the most interesting part of the generations story to end last chapter, haven't you? Please, I can't stand anymore. I need Generations Chapter 9!! Please!!

I know it's hard to write, but you're so good right now you have to go on. Take ranger and jaeger to one of those gore fights quake has!

I think you're going to have tons of mails asking for next chapter...

Lee'Mon: You don't know the half of it.

From: Jediavg
Subject: Hal-lay-lou-ya

Its about time dude. But still worth it. Let's keep it on a schedule here though, okay? And not a monthly one at that.

From: Klabauter
Subject: generations chapter 9 coming soon?

Hi,

Till now you've always said the next generations chapter is coming 'next week' and came a month later. Now you're saying 'coming soon'!! What shall we understand from that? Never ever?! Please don't!

oan

Lee'Mon: I think "Coming Soon!" means that Spyke has gotten burned by late chapters one too many times to tack "Next Week!" on the end of the chapters anymore. Don't fret, though... weekly is still my goal, and now that the Slipgaters story is underway, I'm rearing to write!

And for those of you who are actually following the plot, not just the release dates...

From: Kevin Sanchez
Subject: chapter 8

now you just confused with chapter 8. lotta stuff goin on there...whew. keep it up dude. oh, an, uh...is Arlene (Doom's girl, not Jaeger) a new character? i keep getting confused over how she's connected.

Lee'Mon: Okay, once for the records. Arlene Sanders is Flynn Taggart (aka Doom)'s main love interest. (The names are the same as they are in the "DOOM" novels available commercially. The reason is simple: If I changed them, people would write in asking why they aren't the same.) She got separated from Doom during the Phobos invasion. She was skipped over for the Arenas (and therefore left out of Q3A) because she demonstrates compassion and mercy, two qualities Arena combatants should never show.

Anyhow, between chapters 7 and 8, Arlene Sanders marries that Tom Garrison chap (since Doom is off in the Arenas), becomes Arlene Garrison, and settles down to a life of kicking normal, non-demonic ass. One hundred years later, her great-granddaughter, also Arlene Garrison, is kicking ass with a mean streak... and calling herself Jaeger. Capice?

From: Philippe Hall
Subject: I have to say I'm impressed! :) :) :) :)

Your Generations story line is a fantastic explanation of the ID software universe!!! Spanning from Wolfenstein3D all the way up to Q3A, you have managed to bring together the stories seamlessly. I can hardly wait for chapter 9, but there is one issue that I want to bring up just in case you haven't thought of it.... DOOM III. Doomworld.com is going nuts over this newly announced game, and the story-line is extremely important to the fans... can you leave a place for the DOOM saga to continue in your storyline? Will Doom escape the Arena to continue the battle in hell? Well... I guess it's not that important, especially since id hasn't released any info on the storyline yet anyway. Oh well keep up the good work! :)

Lee'Mon: I'd love to incorporate the new Doom storyline into the grand scheme of things... but, like you said yourself, none of us know what it is yet. Hell, id might not know what it'll be yet. Most of the new Doom news has been about the engine and the team itself, but virtually nothing has been said about the storyline. I've said most of my own thoughts on the new Doom game in a previous editorial, but I would hope that the storyline was at least as deep and complex as "Generations"... and you haven't seen the good parts of the story yet.

I guess what I'm saying is this: id Software? Can you hear me? If you don't have a story yet, or you haven't found a storywriter... pick me. Please? I'll work for free, I'll wash your car... whatever it takes. I just want to help make Doom the best single-player game in the universe. Is that too much to ask?

L33t'M0n: Remember, to tell Lee'Mon he's arrogant, conceited, and should STFU, send your hate-mail straight to leemon@planetquake.com. Just remember that your email made this page possible.

On Page 2: Anything Other Than "Generations"... Please?
