PQ Mailbag

The semi-triumphant return!

All right! It's been a while so let's get this ball rolling, shall we?

First off, greetings! You might have heard a thing or two about some kind of new "Content Manager" thingy wandering around the realms of PlanetQuake. Possibly with a dazed and/or confused look on their face, as well. Some even said that it was no man at all, but an extradimensional being sent to observe this mysterious realm. That was just Fred saying that, though, and you know how he is. But back to the topic at hand... I'm writing this to say - the rumors are true! Well, the ones that said I was the new PQ Content Manager, anyway.

So what's that mean for you? New content, old content that's been lost to the sands of time, and more wacky hijinx featuring me and the rest of the crazy staff here at PQ. Next on my personal checklist is the PQ Poll...

On to the mail!

Sad to say, this was a pretty slack week as far as mail goes. I threatened Pappy-R that I would spend the entire mailbag pimping my mods to take up space, if need be, but he didn't believe me. So all I have to say now is, take THAT, Pappy! And a little bit of THIS, too! Bwahahahaha!

Ahem. So anyway, where were we?
Spammers, as usual, had a field day with their mailbox. At times I was so desparate for mail to post that I actually started reading some of their submissions. It was fascinating stuff, really! Did you know that you can make over $100,000 a month from your home? Sitting around in your underwear, no less! No, really! It's true! While the rest of you suckers are playing games, I'm using the mystical powers of the internet to make me rich beyond my wildest dreams! All while increasing the size of my... er... hard drive. Using these "special offers" I keep getting for LOW LOW PRICES ON EVERYTHING IN STOCK!!!!, that is.

Right. It's a wonder there was room in my inbox for any Quake-related mail at all...

From "CaPoNe"
Subject: quake 4

hey just would like to know where i can get my hands on quake 4 . if you can send me the info on how to get it and where and also how much it will cost lol so send me a email at [email]

thank you

CaPoNe{O^TKA2}
thanks
CY@!!

All righty, then, let's officially start the mailbag with this wonder. Sorry, CaPoNe, the best place to get Quake 4 is probably sometime in 2002. That's more of a "when" than a "where," but I think you get the idea. The cost will quite likely be similar to that of other video games at the stores you shop at. In an attempt to end this submission on a useful note, though, I will say that you should keep an eye on Raven's page. Plus, of course, your friendly staff at PQ!

From: "kaketto yurimanchi"
Subject: quakeworld problems

i have been having the problem of not being able to play anything but normal quake , becuase of an error saying u can not play any mods of quake without the registered version . I have the original quake cd and used to play all the time . Can't find any help on net yet , could u plz mail me some help PLZ

All right, this one looks like a prime candidate for the Tech Tips mailbag. Assuming, of course, that our good friend "kaketto yurimanchi" has Quake installed and didn't delete any files like pak1.pak out of the /id1 directory. That particular one held all the registered goodness, like the extra monsters and maps, and was generally used to see if the game was the demo or registered version.

Next: More pretending to be knowledgable!
