Subject : Does anyone still play, or at least write MODs for Quake 1? Does anyone CARE?!?!
*SNIPPETY SNIP SNIP*
Oh well, maybe I'm just a moron who needs to learn how to manage his money
a little better and stop wasting your time.
Yup, it's another action packed Mailbag!
This week we're laying off the LSD... But a big thank you to everyone who
took the time to mail in and confirm the rather psychedelic Quake II bugs
that we'd been hearing about.
Having read through all your mail I contacted Zoid at id earlier this week
to report the bugs, and just heard back from him yesterday. Apparently id
are aware of the problems and working on a new patch to fix them. No word
on a release date, but Zoid said "we are trying to get it out asap".
So if you're being stalked by walls, seeing pipes embedded in people's backs,
or getting psychedelic visuals, fear not - the bad trip is almost over...
Here a few more of the mails we've received about the latest patch -

Subject : Give me the bugs damnit!
I am sick of all these bug fixes that everybody keeps putting out.
Especially when most of them fix bugs caused from the previous release.
I am getting tired of download a new verion of every game I own every
time I log onto the net, and frankly I believe most people are.
I would much rather deal with having the game crash every time I
rocket-jump out of water while typing cl_forwardspeed 3.14159... than
modifying filters to weed out non-upgraded servers just to play once in
a while. The only legit reason I can find for a patch is for serious
cheating (Like the old TF attacking ghost/observer bug) or fatal errors,
not this body-surfing bug that had to be fixed for 3.19
"Call it a feature and be done with it, it's the American way."

Subject : SPQ2 air control
Ya know, in 3.19, there's still air control in single player mode, and, when
jumping off of the highest edge of a slanted surface while running forward,
you still jump much higher then by jumping normally.
What is it with Zoid and screwing up? It's like they're attracted to each other...
What's this, third patch with air control (not counting the beta, mind you), and
he still hasn't gotten it right? Why does id continue to allow him to do this? OK,
so everyone but Zoid is working on Q3, so what?? Hire someone! There's tons
of competent programmers out there! And they're probably much more in touch
with the community, too!
All I want is Quake 2 to be what it once was...back at the point release, when we
were all happy...no air control variable, no air control in single player, we all
had good pings, no graphical glitches, etc, etc.
[Zoid - "That's pretty false. The air acceleration is the same it was in pre-3.15
patches. I get reports of weird stuff all the time. "3.19 seems more laggy." Well,
there wasn't any networking changes between 3.17 and 3.19, so I have to wonder what
they are complaining about. "]

Subject : Crying about Q2 Patches
Alright. I've had enough.
People are constantly complaining about the frequency of the patches coming
out for Q2. What they fail to see is the fact that Id is actually going beyond just
making a game and being content with it. They are IMPROVING on something
that you've already payed for.
If they remove a bug here and there, hey, that's cool....but these releases are
mostly to implement new features. People don't cry about having to upgrade
Netscape or ICQ...why?
Because most of the time there is an improvement in the program that they
would like to get. The only problem with Id releasing a patch every 2
months is that they are making the previous patch obsolete...ie, not
compatible with the new version. Not releasing the source for each new
.dll is also starting to take it's toll on the community.
The fact that the game is still being improved on though makes it
hard for me to understand why people are crying about it.
