Lawsuits and Canadians
Lowtax's recent lawsuit editorial really seemed to stir people up. We got a ton of mail, most of it in agreement with his sentiments, although quite a few of our Canadian readers took some exception to his lawyers vs. Canadians quote:

That was a great editorial by lowtax (where the hell
did he dig up that name ?)
[No idea... - crispy]
I dont know if this is a shock to the USAians out
there (probably not), but the rest of the world is
laughing at them.
[We're used to it. We take pride in knowing the rest of the
world has nothing better to do than watch us. ;) -crispy]
There was a time (like after WWII) when every country
everywhere admired the US of A and there was a reason
for that. But the USA of today is an international
joke, the only thing that makes people listen to you
is the fact that you do have the most powerfully army
this side of the galaxy, but the respect and
admiration your country once held worldwide is long
The reasons for this are among other things your
pathetic excuse for a justice system. Simple. In a
country where everyone is apparently so incredibly
stupid they dont know smoking is dangerous for you, or
where the president doesn't consider "oral sex to be
sex" something is seriously wrong.
The fact that the official USAian view is that sex
should be illegal to think about before the age of
18/21/whatever is ridiculous but nothing really
serious, other countries laugh about it, but thats it.
What is serious is the see-you-in-court trend that has
become stronger and stronger, with the sueing of the
entertainment industry the latest joke.
Today European companies hesitate about expanding into
USA for fear of being sued by some pathetic moron. And
the trend isnt showing any signs of going away. In the
end something will have to happen or the US will be
struggling hard to retain the remnants of its reputation.

Yea this is pure B.S. alright.... Lowtax hit it right on the money. I think we should file a countersuit against the parents just for being stupid. I'm not kidding, this is getting really lame. Keep it up guys!!

I just gotta say that that was one of the most funny editorials i have read
in a long time and that i am full agreement with what Lowtax is trying to
say.First thing people are blaming the entertainment industry for murder
next thing u know kids are going to start sueing thier parents (oh wait...
didn't that already happen? ;-).
However i resent what Lowtax said about the "Lawer population being able to
beat Canada in a small battle". That's not true 'cause u see, u forgot to
count all of those seals and polar bears that we have under our cruel
I have to admit, we didn't take the seals and polar bears into consideration.
However, as we all know, animals can sense evil much more easily than human
beings. I think it's likely that they'd haul ass away as soon as the felt the
approach of the lawyer army.

I would just like to say that the American lawyers could not defeat
Canada in a small battle. Us Canadians are armed with hockey sticks
(which are given to us at birth), and they should allow us to defeat
some dumb lawyers, who would not be armed with hockey sticks.
Do your polar bears and seals also carry hockey sticks? That would truly
be something to be feared!

Your lawsuit editorial was very funny. However, I found myself laughing so hard that my eyes came out of my skull and I coughed up a lung. I am holding you liable for my plight. Therefor, I am presenting you with a subpoena. See you in court!
Uhm...jeez...two eyes AND a lung? Take us for all we've got!
And, from the "we hate the USA" club:

1) What does this have to do with Quake?
[Might be that whole part about id software being
named as one of the entertainment companies considered for the lawsuit. Call
me crazy.... -crispy]
2) America has never been the american dream for me (and millions of
others). It has been a land, where culture means pornography and slasher
films. Where communication is prostitution. Where you are God if you are
born in the right family, and the devil if you're not! A place where you
only have rights if you are rich enough to buy them. A country that
bombs the living crap outta everyone who doesn't agree with them. The
mightiest imperialists of the 20th century. In short: the Evil Empire.
Well...my personal opinion is that you're not really
portraying a particularly accurate picture of the US. Yes, it's certainly
very money oriented, but your worth as a person is hardly determined by
that value alone (let alone what kind of money you had available when you
were born). And if you don't agree with me, I'm going to bomb the living
crap out of you! ;)

I'd just like to point out that this kind of lawsuit could only happen in America.
It must have something to do with the fact that 99% of Americans are lazy-ass slobs who
are traumatized by the mere idea of thinking logically and using their heads instead
of their wallets. Especially those Midwestern types...
Uh....yeh...The nurse should be along soon with your medication.
For now, try to breathe calmly and stay away from the gross overgeneralization...
