The Infamous Doom Comic Book

If you haven't seen my review of the awful Doom Comic Book, check it out now. And beware.

From : James Perry
Subject :
Doom Comic Review

I could find only two things wrong with the review:

1) You passed up the opportunity to comment on the dialog of the last picture ("Sweet Christmas! Big-Mouthed Floating Thingies! It's always something!"). How could you resist saying something about this? Maybe the marine was actually a victim of a brain transplant where he ended up with the brain of an insane asylum patient.

2) You didn't mention the publisher of the wonderful piece of literature, so (assuming a miracle occurred and they're still in business) I could make sure to avoid anything by these comic icons.

1) Dialogue like that (literally) speaks for itself. I don't think there was anything I could possibly add to that quote that would make it seem any stupider.

2) For the life of me, I can't find a name of a publisher anywhere on the rag. Maybe they were smart enough to distance themselves from it... although I doubt it. They probably just forgot to stamp their names on it while the ten year olds were finishing up the dialogue.

DOOMed Comic Book

Your Doom Comic Book review was hillarious. You have my pity.

If you want to do ANOTHER one, let me know. A few years ago, I made the mistake of purchasing a Doom NOVEL! At least the comic book had pictures (I guess they could be called that). Anyway, I'd be MORE than happy to send it to you. ANYTHING to get it out of my house and make me feel like my $4.95 went to some useful purpose other than filling a landfill.

I unfortunately have leafed through a couple of those novels before. While they're extremely poorly written, they do attempt to form a plot and have some kind of character development rather than the development in the comic book (i.e., characters just develop from "alive" to "dead").

It's simple: They never played the game, they were 10 years old, or they were stoned.

I'll take "all of the above" for 500, Alex.

Doom Comic

I have the Doom comic, it came with the ID Anthology and I agree that its shit and that the authors didn't read it. Hears something's I noticed.

1) It takes 4 BFG shots to kill a cyber demon
2) 80 Bullets in the chain gun would do about jack against anything
3) The Doom Marine wore a helmet
4) If he blew up those barrels that close to them he'd be toast

Also you forgot THE best line from the book. You see this comic (use the term loosely) is about mans uncaring for nature, as stated in the below quote...

"Why can't we find a way to safely dispose of radioactive waste and protect the environment? Even if I personally stop this alien invasion (foreshadowing?) what kind of planet will we be leaving to our children and there children's children?"

Picking awful quotes from this comic was too much for me. If I picked every bit of writing I could make fun of, I'd probably end up copying the whole thing to HTML.

I can't believe Lowtax wasted an hour of his time (at LEAST) reviewing that piece of crap.

For this we get slow updates to the main page?

Have you ever noticed there's always ONE whiner in every bunch? This is the only negative email I've gotten regarding the Doom comic. I think maybe Steve is related to one of the writers of the comic... and he's on his way over to my office now to shoot me. Don't do it Steve Lieb, think about the children!

PCs before Macs

From : David Snow
Subject :
Q3Test on Mac first...

I can understand the hurt feelings of Windows users for the first Q3test. And I'm a Mac user.

Macs 'own' graphic design like PCs 'own' gaming... that is, way more software, more mature platform, etc. Adobe is the MS of graphic design software... and there was a time when 99% of their profits came from Mac users. When Adobe released PageMill 3.0 for PCs first (this was pre- iMac, when everybody thought Apple was dead) I saw flames for months. People felt betrayed... and angry. Mac users, the reason for their success, were shafted.

Quake players are as fanatical about their game as a Mac user is about their OS... so I can take the anti-Apple bashing in stride.

I just wonder, though:, about all the Quakers who 'dis' on Apple whenever possible... John Carmack has publicly stated that when Apple releases OSX, he will likely move all development over to that platform. Will that finally win Apple their respect? Or will it take 750MHz AltiVec G4 boxes w/ 4X AGP and Voodoo 3500 or TNT2 cards (as rumors say are on the way)? Maybe getting rid of that damn stupid round mouse ?

I think killing that lame ass mouse would be definitely a move in the right direction. It wouldn't hurt to kill Jeff Goldblum as well.
