Do you look forward to the console ports of Quake III Arena? (submitted by Andrew Lawlife)

Answer Votes
Percentage

Yeah, baby - the Dreamcast rocks my world.
71
4.2%
Yes, for the PlayStation2, because as Mynx would say, "it rocks like goat cheese."
76
4.5%
Yeah, if I owned a console system, but I don't currently.
85
5%
No, I don't plan on owning a console anytime soon.
753
45%
Yes, but only if they allow you to play it with a mouse and keyboard and not the standard controllers, because otherwise I'll look like a skill-less llama with a muscular disorder when I play.

Lee'Mon: Sorry. I haven't been a console person since I built my first PC.
L33t'M0n: Why would I look forward to something I already have?
Spyke: Not at all. I'm too poor to own a console.
Pappy-R: I'm very interested in Dreamcast and Xbox. By interested I mean, I can type those two names and remain awake.
Hellchick: I saw the Dreamcast port at E3. It wasn't as cool as the PC version, and it was a little alien to play it (not that I WAS a little alien playing it), but it wasn't bad.
Fargo: I can't imagine trying to play Quake with a little console controller. I'm excited about it for other stuff, though.
Mynx: Don't knock goat cheese. Oh, and we love our dreamcast around here - almost as much as Gabe over at Penny Arcade, although I don't think I've ever put it in my pants.
shaithis: No, but I do plan on owning a console soon (Dreamcast, baby). I just can't get excited about playing Q3A with a joystick when I can play it with a mouse and keyboard.

Do you run your own Quake server?

Answer Votes
Percentage

Yes, for Quake 1 - the classic lives on.
38
2.2%
Yes, for Quake 2 - Still the best mods!
70
4.1%
Yes, for Quake III Arena - I AM the Arena.
120
7.1%
Yes, for all three of them - I'll run a server for EVERY game I can get my grubby mitts on!
48
2.8%
Yes, for a couple of the Quake series titles.
76
4.5%
No, but I would if I had the right equipment to do it.
917
54.9%
No, it's too much work.
400
23.9%

Lee'Mon: I usually end up running the server for WireHead's interal testing and recreation.
L33t'M0n: My mind is a Quake server.
Spyke: I'm too poor to run my own server.
Pappy-R: Used to, but not right now. I've done all three Quakes for public servers.
Hellchick: Nope, never have. I've always wanted to, though.
Fargo: I used to run a classic TFC CanalZone server 24/7. But hardly anyone ever connected. Miscreants. Plebian reprobates. Uncultured swine. I hurt inside.
Mynx: I play on OTHER people's servers. And Fargo only hurts inside because of that hot dog incident..
shaithis: No, but I would if I wasn't so goddamned lazy. Actually, I'd probably run a hack-proofed Quakeworld TF server... not that anyone would actually play.

How long did it take you to figure out that "l33t" meant "elite"? (submitted by MrGTI)

Answer Votes

I'm so l33t I knew it right away. I invented l33t.
653
39.1%
I didn't know it right away, but it didn't take me long.
583
34.9%
It took me forever - I always thought it was Carmack's hat size or something.

So THAT'S what it means!

Lee'Mon: You kids think you're so fancy with your letters and numbers. Back in the day, we only had ones and zeroes! And we only got ones if we were really good! I coded a Doom patch with only zeroes!
L33t'M0n: |-|@ |-|@, j00 11@|\/|@5 %[_]><0r!
Spyke: I'm wondering why most people can't figure it out for themselves, and have to ask me in every single Mailbag!!
Pappy-R: I remember when that meant something, now that stuff is just a pain. "6006135"
Hellchick: Spyke, what's l33t mean?
Fargo: }{ 0l g33z 0\/\/nz3|]{R l33t8s][ng l3z0r! Oh, wait, that's not l33tspeak, I accidently sneezed while typing.
Mynx: geez. this question makes me feel old. "you mean people don't know what l33t is?"
shaithis: I was using BBSs back before anyone had net connects, and before l33tspeak originated. I'm not kidding. When I first heard the term "elite", it was still spelled "elite". I'm only 23, too. That's sort of frightening.

Have you ever tried making something for Quake?

I've made some of those things, but not all of them.

Lee'Mon: WireHead Studios. Sure, I don't actually make most of the stuff in our games, but does bossing around those that do count?
L33t'M0n: Once, after a really long round of Q3A, I had to make number two. Does that count?
Spyke: One time I tried to make it supper, but it said it wasn't hungry.
Pappy-R: Done maps and skins, and NO you can't see them!
Hellchick: Levels for Quake 3, and skins for Quake 2. Both of which would make your eyes water in pain to look at.
Fargo: Look, all you bitches can't hold a candle to my first Quake level, "Big fullbright box," or the blockbuster sequel, "Dark box with pillars."
Mynx: I made babies for quake. I win.
shaithis: Levels, skins, models and textures. I've released over 600 textures, free to the scene. Check it out if you don't believe. The other stuff I've made is not for public release. Bitch!

How many mods do you have installed?

Answer Votes

None. What's a mod?
81
4.9%
1-5. Just a few, but they're good ones.
852
51.7%
6-10. I like to dabble in a little of this, a little of that...
337
20.4%
10-20. I can't get enough mods!
162
9.8%
over 20. I've played everything, even that one with the cow.
214
13%

Lee'Mon: Easily over 20, including my WireHead folders.
L33t'M0n: I have Excessive Overkill installed in /baseq3.
Spyke: 3 or 4, at last recollection. Mmm.. Generations Arena.
Pappy-R: Considering I have to see all Mods at least once, I'll need some help with the final number. Two machines, three Quake III installs, two for Quake 2, around 8 gigs of Quakin' goodness...Fargo's gonna have to use his toes for me on this one.
Hellchick: I've got 14. Somehow, that doesn't seem like nearly enough.
Fargo: Hang on, I'm trying to find that other toe.
Mynx: Hang on, I'm trying to find that other boob.
shaithis: None at the moment. To be honest, the only FPS I have installed is Quake2. Diablo 2 holds me captive.

Lee'Mon: Bravo to the near-thousand of you who took a physics class.
L33t'M0n: Bravo to the three hundred-odd of you that know when you combine chicken grease and Fargo, anything's possible.
Spyke: Mynx's underwear tied with chicken grease and Fargo? That ain't right.
Pappy-R: As with most of the more complex theories, it comes down to Mynx's underwear.
Hellchick: Huzzah! My faith in the education system has been restored!
Fargo: Huzzah! My faith in myself is nearly restored. Or something.
Mynx: Hot pink. I am wearing hot pink underwear today. Case closed.
shaithis: I don't own any hot pink underwear. This is probably classified as a "good thing".

Who are these people anyway?

Hellchick is the PQ Site Director, or at least has convinced her friends that she is.
Pappy-R is PQ's News Jockey and Part-time Table Dancer.
Spyke does the PQ in Review, the PQ Mailbag, and your girlfriend.
Lee'Mon writes articles and editorials for PQ, which means he's really into finding things to complain about.
shaithis is a former PQ Site Director who now spends his days running GameSpy.com and sharpening the spikes on the top of his cubicle. You think we're kidding.
Fragmaster also used to run PQ, and now manages ClassicGaming.com and the console section of the GameSpy network. He also enjoys the occasional potted tuna.
Mynx is our resident advice expert, knowledgeable about all sorts of topics that the rest of us are just too scared to touch.
Tetsuo performs miracles that mere mortals cannot understand as part of the tech team at GameSpy. He also really likes bacon. Even more than Hellchick.
Fargo has been around since the beginning of PQ. He's been known to camp everything, including the poll.
