Week of August 17th, 1998
How many players a team would you like to see in a team mod (CTF, TF etc)?
1 - what's a team?
more than 32 - I want an army, not a team!
dweomer: 4 on 4 CTF is probably the most fun. Teams much larger than that lack the feeling that you are a key member.
Joost: Team communication can be tedious if you're not in the same room.
Void: I prefer smaller teams, 'cause 1 player has a bigger impact, but we had some kickass 12 on 12 QWCTF this weekend.
Bastard: I like the army idea.
Fargo: The ideal team consists of me and whoever is on Clan Nine.
Gestalt: Big is beautiful...
Are you a member of a clan?
I've lost track of how many I'm in...
I'm in a few
Devoted my life to one
I used to be in a clan...
You'll never see me clanned!
What's a clan?
Does chess club count?
dweomer: I think the overwhelming answer, "I'm in a few" says a lot about clans these days - most of it not good.
Joost: Used to be in Demonic Core, a UK clan until i moved to the states and didn't have time anymore for clan activities.
Bastard: Clans didn't take off with the same fervor for Q2 as they did for Q1. What up with dat?
Fargo: Maybe Clan Nine will accept me.
Gestalt: Never been in a clan, probably never will be...
What's your favourite type of Quake/Quake II mod?
Deathmatch (Holy Wars, Rocket Arena...)
Class-based (TF, Cry Havoc...)
CTF (LMCTF, 3Wave...)
Other teamplay (Jailbreak, Freeze Tag...)
dweomer: Clan arena? Basty can't handle this.
Joost: CTF mainly.
Void: Rocket Arena 2 rules all.
Bastard: Clan Arena Owns Me.
Fargo: My favorites are class-based CTF... (insert Mod of the Week plug here...)
Gestalt: Teamplay is where it's at - anything else is just twitch kill, good for taking out your frustrations on your fellow Quakers, but lacking that deep down satisfaction you get from a good capture...
If a genie granted you a wish whereby you could choose from any of the following, which would you choose?
A copy of every past id game, and every future one on the day it's released
A new top-of-the-line, fully-loaded gaming computer
A free T1 connection to the Net, for life
Nothing. I don't trust genies.
These choices all suck. I want a new genie.
Joost: A life.
Void: Man, wouldn't it suck if you were an Amish person and found this genie?
Bastard: Hmmm. How about if the Genie is a major hotty?
Fargo: I'd wish for the next id game BEFORE it was released, and then sell it to Carmack so nobody's on to the Genie thing.
Gestalt: Mmm... T1. Do they even exist in the UK?
Where do you live?
Take me to your leader...
Fargo: These questions get tougher every week.
Gestalt: European and proud of it.
If I took you down with a BFG, what would you do?
Whine that BFGs are for llamas
Claim it was a cheap frag
It's just another weapon, who cares?
Hunt your sorry ass down and get payback
You won't kill me with that thing
Joost: Find the BFG on the level.
Fargo: I'd consider you ass lucky, you limey bastard.
Gestalt: I'm too tired to think of a witty comment. Insert your own here...
What's the most lag you'll put up with before the game is unplayable?
0-50 - LPB born and bred
50-100 - every tenth of a second counts
100-200 - how can you play with more than that?
200-300 - we shall overcome
300-500 - my mad skillz will overcome it!
500+ - half a second makes no difference to my game
999 - I've seen more action in Myst...
Joost: 400 ms. Quake II still plays pretty well then.
Void: mmm... T1...
Bastard: Anything above 50 is unacceptable now.
Fargo: Next week we'll ask, "How badly does a guy have to be lagged for you not to kill him out of pity?"
Gestalt: I've played with 800 lag before. You get used to it. No, really. It sucks being British. :-)
What resolution do you play Quake/Quake II at?
I don't play Quake
Joost: Uhm... would you believe i don't know? Whatever the default 3Dfx enhanced one is.
Bastard: We should separate this question into GL vs. Software.
Fargo: I play at a resolution of 1x1, so that when I fire my gun everything on the screen dies.
Gestalt: How can you play at 320x240? Ouch. Doesn't that strain your eyes or something?
