Now that Q3Test has come out for Linux and Mac before Win95/98, do you consider it a viable gaming platform?
Of course they are. That's why I use one of them.
Sure, they're viable. In fact, I'm switching to one of them.
Yeh, but I'm sticking with my PC.
Linux yes, but not the Mac.
Mac yes, but not linux.
Nah, they're just backwater OS's that appeal to Carmack and a few others.
Macintoshes? I thought you ate those...
Mix: Sure, they're viable, but that doesn't mean I'm going to go buy the blue toaster anytime soon.
dakota: Are you using "it" to refer to both platforms? Grammer ain't just something you call your mother's mother.
China: I think all are viable gaming platforms; as long as a Mac has the hardware to support the games, no reason why it shouldn't be used for gaming...
dakkon: I was hoping they would make it for the VIC 20. Damn,
Darx: Looks just as nice and runs just as fast on a Mac...have no clue about Linux.
Moltar: Something is just incredibly wrong having your machines come in different "flavors" like... Grape. That whole penguin thing with Linux just has to end, it's not an icon I can get behind. Sloppy marketing.
Fargo: Somehow PQ needs to woo the MacQuake crowd. Speak up, people!
crispy: Do I need to point out that Dakota corrected my error by misspelling grammar? ;)
How long have you been answering the poll?
Since the dawn of time (Wampey's Census).
Since Wampey's moved to PQ.
Since the pre-gestalt era.
since the pre-crispy era
only in the last couple of updates
first time baby.
I'm sorry...I thought this linked to pr0n...
dakota: Since Basty was a baby.
China: I can't even remember a time when there was no poll...
Darx: Every time you threaten me crispy.
Moltar: I started answering the poll when the voices inside my head told me to.
Fargo: Pr0n? You're thinking of the PQ "Pole."
crispy: since wampey was hosted on some ISP page.
Do you prefer tactical, strategy-driven DM levels or insane FFA splatter fests?
Shush, I think I can hear someone collecting ammo 13 feet behind me.
I'd use strategy if I could stay alive for more than 2 seconds.
Depends on the number of people/bots I'm playing against.
Depends on which map I'm playing.
Pickup weapon -> Find opponent -> Fire gun.
Strategy? I just spray the area and go!
I only play on empty servers. I just like to look at the pretty architecture.
I don't play DM.
Mix: Somehow I do better in a chump-nugget gutfest.
dakota: Splatter Fest, baby. I like my level fast and dangerous...just like my Yugo.
China: Depends on my mood: Friday at 7pm nothing beats an insane splatterfest.
dakkon: It doesn't matter to me because I have PAK9. aww yeah.
Darx: Nothing beats the real twitch-fest of about 20 people on Quake1's dm4.
Moltar: Free For All Splatter Fests are for sloppy players.. nothing but chance kills.. and nothing to do with skill.
Fargo: Strategy!! Strag-geddy! Camping. I mean, strategy.
crispy: strategy and one-on-ones bore me to tears. Give me a splatter-fest any day.
RETRO POLL (05/10/97): If DM4, DM6, etc. were designed by somebody other than a game company and then released on the Internet, would they have been as popular? [NOTE: replace DM4/DM6 with Q2DMx if you want. It's the same question either way - crispy]
Yeh, they still would be just as popular.
No, they wouldn't be as popular.
Original Results (05/10/97):
Mix: Not sure... I really like DM6, and it doesn't matter who made it, but I don't think it would've gotten as much play if it wasn't id made.
dakota: Only if they supported CTF, baby. ;-)
China: Yes, they are great maps. classic strategic architecture and stuff.
Darx: It may have taken a bit longer but my guess, and hopes, would yes they would have.
Moltar: I think I will replace DM4/DM6 with Q2DMx.. Quake 1 was for slop players.. you hear me!?! SLOP.. no skill chumps.
Fargo: Q2DM1 is a pretty solid level, but I know several DM levels released on the net that woulda been sure hits if they were bundled with the game.
crispy: The masses still agree: They wouldn't. You know they wouldn't. There are plenty of levels that are as good that languish in obscurity.
Which will be the best Deathmatch game?? UTE or Q3a? [stacked question on this site, but wtf. :) -crispy]
Quake3 Will rock!
Unreal Tournament Edition is the best
They'll Both Kickass!
I Don't Care.
They'll both suck.
Mix: After seeing UT at E3, I'm really looking forward to both.
dakota: It will take a lot of work for either of them to be as cool as QuakeWorld.
China: Both look nice; didn't get a chance to play at E3. I think they'll both be good.
dakkon: Neither! I can't use my l33t PAK9!!
Darx: I saw UTE at E3 and was pretty impressed but my natural Q3A sk1llz lean me toward Q3A =)
Moltar: Q3A feels kinda sloppy at the moment. The delay on the bullet impact sucks and the effects fill up too much of the screen. I have yet to play UT, so your question SUCKS!.. IT'S A SLOP QUESTION!
Fargo: Saw UT at E3 ... prepare to be surprised. This thing was looking pretty hot.
crispy: Q3:A has a lot going for it, but UT's bot AI and gameplay variety are going to be hard to match.
Are you going to E3?
Yeh, I'm a developer.
Yeh, I'm a press member.
Yeh, I'm going to lie and say I work for electronics boutique.
Yeh, I'm getting in some other way.
No, I'm not interested.
No, I can't afford it.
No, my company isn't showing anything this year.
No, my company isn't reporting on it this year.
No, I don't even know what E3 is.
Mix: Two words: Booth Babes.
dakota: Been there, done that, spit on the H.E.A.T. T-Shirt.
China: E3..... mmmmm... E3... imagine a giant free arcade where you can talk to the ppl that made the game. I can't WAIT til next year!
dakkon: I got 0wn3d at E3.
Darx: I went to, I saw, I got a tan and had fun! Cya next year!
Moltar: I'll take the other option, I want to go to E3 but I'm sitting at home with the Flu. So, take pity on my you SLOP suckers.
Fargo: I'm just in this industry for the booth babes(tm).
crispy: Dude...I covered the whole friggin thing.
