Spyke recaps last week and all the things you may have missed! - by Spyke

PQ In Review: Rededication

News

We'll kick right into it, just as you like it. Observe the Levels of the Week, and the Mod of the Week, Vortex for Quake 2! On New Year's Eve, we brought you some exclusive Alliance v2 screenshots, showing off this fantastic new mod that everyone's digging. This week's PQ Poll, in addition to bringing the previous week's results, brought new questions regarding Team Arena and Quakecon 2001! Damn, I'm hoping to get to that one. This week's Dear Mynx includes questions on the cuffs and collars of redheads matching, pregnant sex, and rodents. No matter how much you want me to be, I'm never kidding about this stuff. And finally, Love2Play answers all the technical questions you can sling at her in the award-winning (and if it's not, it should be) TechTips Mailbag!

Coming Soon

This week, we bring you a very special coming soon, from the boss himself, Pappy R!

There's been a bit of "odd time" around PQ recently with the holidays and all, but I just wanted to take a moment to let you know what was going on around PQ for features. What you can expect to see are your favourites like the Levels of the Week, Mod of the Week, Model of the Week, Mynx, the Tech Mailbag and so on. What won't be continuing in this new millennium is the Hardcore Side Mailbag. There just wasn't enough reader interest to keep it fresh, and if it isn't fresh it's not gonna happen. I will do the Hardcore Side features for tournaments and such I attend, which was the feature's original mission. The "Big Fuzzy Focus" will be back very soon with more magnified looks at the creative community the keeps us all coming back for more. The Top Ten will be hitting the scene again now that Ash and I can get together again to kick it out for you.

The PQ Mailbag has been MIA recently and we're in the process of bringing that one back along with the Rants n'Raves. These are all reader content pieces basically and that's where I'd like to strengthen PQ's content. More reader submitted material is what I'd like to see. For some reason people think you have to be "PlanetQuake staff" to have stuff posted and that's just not true. PlanetQuake is and will always be community based. Give us your rants, editorials, even interviews if you can nail down someone the other readers would want to hear from.

I do have two very big things in the works right now that I was hoping I could spill the beans on here, but they're just not locked down yet, so we'll have to wait. Yes, they are well worth the wait. The one thing I can promise this coming week is the announcement of the new Q3A model contest we'll be holding. This is gonna be the real deal for the model making commmunity, and I know they're up to the task. Welcome to PQ 2001...a Quake Odyssey.

-Pappy-R

Question of the Damned

It's a New Year, so that begs another ubiquitous question: "What games are you looking forward to that will be released in 2001?"

Hellchick:

Team Fortress 2 because it's a return to Quake roots. Duke Nukem Forever, too, if it makes it this year.
Pappy R:
Return to Wolfenstein is topping my list. Halo and Planet Side although the dev schedule on those is up in the air. I can't wait to see FPS go massive Multiplayer!
Spyke:
Amazingly, I can only think of a few. Return to Castle Wolfenstein, Anachronox and Neverwinter Nights. Those will be the hits, guaranteed!
Remember, if you want to submit a Question of the Damned, just e-mail me!

Spyke's Profound Thought

Well, I hope everyone had a fun and safe New Year's; I did! That was a supreme rededication by the Papster there, and I will pledge to you readers to.. um.. keep doing what I'm doing! I hope people like it. Anyways, I installed Alice finally, a couple days ago, and I'm hooked. Holy crud, this is a fantastic game. The graphics are amazing, the gameplay rocks, it has atmosphere, and story. Hats off to American McGee, the folk at Rogue, and the dudes that helped out at Ritual; this is some fantastic stuff. I can't wait to finish it!
