Holy campy comedy series, Quake dude! Billions and billions of things happening here at the Big Fuzzy this week. Okay, I lied, there were just a lot. Which makes my job fun and interesting! And it pulls me away from The Sims. I swear, Maxis is evil for doing this to me. They must be stopped before they achieve total world domination. But Quake dude is there to stop them. Right Quake dude? Quake dude: "BWAAAH!" Dammit, I can never sustain a conversation with you.
Let's kick it straight into tha news, brutha. We had map packs galore, as this week was (surprise) Map Pack week! I'll handily list them all here for your easy perusal; Lithium Q2, Action Q2, Quake 1, Quake 3 DM, and Quake 3 CTF. Whew. Massive linkage. On from the map packs to our features. Mynx shared some of her feedback with us, printing letters she's recieved on her award-winning column, as she felt she could take some time off, as it was her birthday on Saturday! BTW, happy b-day, Mynx! And I won't ask your age, as I know you'd bite my head off, or at least utilize one of your many.. wait, not here. Yours truly, the master of disaster, the monarch of the Mailbag, faithfully delivered another one, wherein I actually answer questions, and as usual, get made fun of by Hellchick. Love2Play painstakingly compiled another edition of TechTips, educating y'all on Quake 3 Arena shiznit, like how to use models, maps, and how to make your name really pretty! In a grueling battle, we won! Yes, that's right. The Quake Dude is the champion of the GameSpy Grudge Showdown. We won by 22 votes. Damn, that's close. Time to pimp something non-PQ or GSI, because I love it so much; FiringSquad ran a giant John Carmack interview. This is solid gold, people. Word straight from The Man himself. Just read it. And finally, the bigguns. For this week of maps, we (well actually Pappy R) managed to procure chat sessions with both Robert Duffy and Zoid of id Software! We've posted both chat logs here (Robert Duffy), and here (Zoid).
And here we go with the past week's site launches; some really outstanding ones this week. Adopt-A-Mod.. um.. adopts mods in order to give them a fighting chance. Mod On Demand sort of does what I've been pondering; gives hopeful mod makers a place to discuss and explain their ideas, and provides a central focal point for mod development. Digital1 currently features a remake of the oh-so-goodfull classic DM2 for Quake 3 Arena. Ingenuity features some swank looking maps for a variety of different games, including all 3 Quakes. Future Wars is a very cool teamplay mod for Quake 2. Shellshock's Crater hosts the ass-kicking Q3Offline, a game launcher for Q3A. Quake 2000 adds some wicked features to the Quake engine, including fog and skyboxes!
The poop-disturber this week will be Lee'Mon's editorial on the oh-so-rehashed topic of Generations. He tells people to get a life, so this should be the end of it. Paul Steed and Hellchick take tango lessons together; watch in RealVideo as hilarity ensues. News pimp Pappy R slaps down an article on a tournament he attended. John Romero guest hosts Dear Mynx, and fields only questions to which he can answer "Suck it down." Oh yeah, a special map surprise too. Even I don't know about it, it's so secret.
Question of the Damned
Hooray! After being stuck last week and not having a QotD, we again have a reader-submitted one. PreDikTabel asks: "Now That Quake 3 Arena has been released, do you think you'll ever go back to Quake 1 or 2?"
Of course! I played some Quake 1 the other day. For Quake 2, though, I only really go back for the mods. I regularly beat a friend of mine named Mark into a whimpering bowl of Jell-O in Action Quake 2.
I am a whimpering bowl of Jell-O. I doubt I will go back to Quake 1 or 2, as I'd have to buy them again. See, you know those religious images in Q3A? Well, they convinced me that the other two Quakes were evil. So I set them on fire. Now they are only evil ashes.
Hrm. Excellent question. I most likely will, to test out mods and levels and such. Plus I'm really jonesing for some Q2DM action. I never realized how much I love those maps. Frag Pipe, come back to me! I 0wnz0r j00!
Remember, if you want to submit a Question of the Damned (and please don't just send in your answer to this one, I don't care!), just e-mail me!
Spyke's Profound Thought
So I've been playing The Sims lately. Man, is that game ever addictive. Seriously, I think Maxis could realistically achieve world domination. Now that they're over making stupid games like SimAnt. That game was just plain stupid. But anyways, The Sims has been pulling me away from Quake. Help! I need some ultra-addictive Q3A levels to help me out. Hey, whaddya know? ztn released his first Q3A level! I think I can begin pulling myself away from The Sims now. Mwahaha! Oh yes, before I go, I'd like to lend a nice goodbye to LadyICE. Yes, that's right, our Content and Hosting Manager has up and left, for PlanetHalfLife. I'd just like to wish her luck, and thank her for the wonderful work she did while here. :)
