PQ in Review
Spyke recaps last week and all the things you may have missed! - by Spyke

PQ In Review: A Kick In The Junk

That's what PQ in Review is, baby. Or at least that's what it was designed to be. I'm sure that some people don't even know what the purpose of PQ in Review is, so I'll refresh your memory here. It's a place where people who are too freakin' lazy or only get the chance to surf the net sporadically can get up to date on the past week's news, find out what's coming soon (to bring them back to the Big Fuzzy), and read the humorous and informative insight of PQ staff members. Yeah, right. Hop aboard the train! Choo choo!

News

And a ton o' junk (not literally) we have for you this week. The week kicked off with an absolutely fan-freakin-tastic editorial by Schnapple, "On the Q3A Platform". Schnapple goes off on how Q3 should not be considered game, but a big piece of software with an SDK. It's an excellent read, and stirred up a lot of poo for.. This week's PQ Mailbag! That's right, Hellchick and I (mostly I) put together the jim-dandiest Mailbag in a long time, including feedback from the aforementioned editorial, Pappy's "From The Hardcore Side" article of last week, and a ton more stuff. There's even a picture of Hellchick with an inflatable sheep in there, I swear. This week marked the sporadic return of the PQ Poll, in which you, the oh-so-informative readers can submit your opinion on Q3A merchandise you'd like to see, browsers you use, and how often you visit PQ (and it better be multiple times a day, or we'll gitcha)! Also included are the poll results from last week/month/whatever. Read the PQ staff's humorous comments! As if there aren't enough of them! Our favorite pregnant columnist (and we know lots of pregnant columnists) Mynx whipped up another edition of her perennial advice column, Dear Mynx! Watch as Mynx gives advice on girls, impotence, funny smells, and avoids giving her panties away! There are really some sick freaks out there! Please stay away from my home! Brian "Rozzer" Forsyth let us know about a really cool game coming out using the Q3A engine. Yup, you guessed it, Duck Hunt 2K! Now you too can blast those damn ducks in a 3D environment! I hear there's a cheat so you can finally get that damn dog, too. In this week's edition of TechTips, Love2Play puts your ass in the know (don't hurt me, Billy) about a poopload of Quake 2 info and resources! Finally, a bit of a sad note, but we wish him the best: In his .plan, Zoid let us all know that he'll be leaving his position as an outside contractor for id, moving on to accept a position at Retro Studios, producing games for Nintendo's next-generation console. Best of luck, Zoid, and thanks for all the work you put into the Quake community! It wouldn't have been the same without you!

We had a mini-poopload of site launches for you this week, as we attempt to assimilate the miniscule percentage of sites that aren't already on PQ. Gom Jabbar's Hideout has some cool maps for Q1 and 2. The Outlet has some swank maps for Q2 and 3 (some really cool gimmick maps for Q3A). Kings and Assholes is a cool-looking mod for Q3A based on the popular card game. House of Hard Havoc is a mod for Q3A featuring a bevy of new weapons and items. Equim's Emporium features a Q3A map and the EliteHUD mod. Terradome has some swank skins for Q3A. One Man Army is a mod for Q3A and UT that is essentially a bloody, gibful version of tag. Crimson Flame Software has a couple mods in development, one of them being Last Man Standing for Q3A.

Coming Soon

Unholy gibs! We've got a lot of stuff coming up. A rebuttal editorial to Schnapple by Golbez on Monday, an article called "Mods 101" by Lee'Mon later in the week, a Friday Frag (wh00t!), and perhaps challenging the world on PQ Arena! That and all the regular features of course. Plus my experiences with a very special person sometime soon, and Lee'Mon and I have something up our sleeves for you in mid-March.

Question of the Damned

This week we threw another PQ staff member into the pit of the damned: Lee'Mon! That's right, everyone's favorite editorial-and-mod-writing monkey will now be answering the QotD every week, because we needed some company. This week's QotD comes to us from GreatSnafu, and he asks: "If one of the PlanetQuake staff members was really a superhero in disguise, which one would it be and why?"

Hellchick:

It would be Pappy-R, no question! He's quiet, unassuming, and he does THE NEWS. I seem to recall another superhero who was always in disguise doing NEWS. I bet Pappy even wears a cape when no one's looking. But that may not have to do with being a superhero.

Pappy R:

One of us IS a super hero! Spyke is Captain ICQ. His ICQ is on more comps than you could easily count, and he's been authorized more times than my address for pizza delivery.

Lee'Mon:

Well, I don't know about superHERO, but I suspect spyke is really Two-Face. Every week, he alternates between complaining that my editiorials haven't gotten him enough mail, and complaining that he's got too much mail from the last editorial. Actually, I'm just saying he's Two-Face because that would probably make me Batman. ;^)

Spyke:

It'd be Hellchick, for sure. I mean, she's already got the Big (expletive) Q, the inflatable sheep, I'm sure she's got a fluorescent pink jumpsuit somewhere, with "Super Astrophysicist" on the chest. She will save the world from the evil nebuli! Why? Because she can, baby! They say that Hellchick's a bad mutha..

Remember, if you want to submit a Question of the Damned, just e-mail me!

Spyke's Profound Thought

Finally, for the first time in a long time (too long to count), I'm gonna get profound on y'all! Is laziness in a lazy world really a crime? I sure as heck hope not, because if it is, I'm probably in for a life sentence. Alas; I have some cool things in the back of my mind for PQ, to further enhance my internet celebrity. I just wish I had more time to implement them, but nothing, and I mean nothing, can cut into my railgun practice. I've even been skipping my daily shots for Q3A. Hey, why is everything all blurry?

- Spyke
