A great man once said, "If you ever swerve me again, I'll gitcha!" But what does this really mean? Was he referring to someone in specific, or to everyone in general? Am I "swerving" you here? Or does this make little to no sense whatsoever? I thought so. Welcome to PQ in Review, and Happy April 23rd for all and no religious denominations. This may be a little incoherent; I'm on a really big sugar high here. So here's what's up at the Big Fuzzy (Bunny) this week!
Well golly gee, a whole lot of stuff happened this week, so let's get with the going! We kicked off the week with an editorial by Sven, "It's Great To Be Single", on the Q2 single-player experience and how it can be kept alive. Lee'Mon shot himself in the foot with a ton of submissions for his "Name the Quakefish" contest. He'd better be paying someone to watch his dorm while he's away, because that Quakefish will be mine at all costs! Once again, the PQ Poll was in full effect, asking you readers for your opinions on such important things as Q3A action figures, Name That Game Geek, and dinner with the PQ staff. As always, the real attraction is the commentary from the GSI/PQ crew on last week's results. Beloved by parents everywhere (see next week's Mailbag for more on that), our favorite pervert Mynx kicked out yet another installment of the continuing saga of the column that is Dear Mynx, fielding questions on wanking over an old girlfriend's pictures, lubrication, and nipple hardness. Also, the aforementioned Name That Game Geek feature continues, with a little bit of rear male nudity. My arch-nemesis Lee'Mon and myself continued our series of great battles over the issues that matter in gaming with the latest Gauntlet, on realism in games. I'm only losing by 2% at this count, so it looks like Lee'Mon's friends in their university computer labs, voting from each computer, are doing their jobs. The big announcement this week was of course the unveiling of the first details on id Software's Q3A mission pack. Fortunately, Hellchick got us the scoop, and was able to include some other tidbits that came from her oh-so-productive visit to id a couple weeks back. The feature that you all look forward to, the PQ Mailbag, was better than ever this week, just because; it features feedback on Sven's editorial, The Gauntlet, and Hellchick's husband ratting on her. News pimp supreme Pappy R treated us to another delightful installment of From The Hardcore Side, and this time it's all about clans. Which is the most l33t, how do you join, and what do they do? Pappy answers, baby! And last but never least, this week's TechTips is a goodie, on the Anatomy of a LAN!
Coming up next week, Lee'Mon churns out another five-star editorial on the feedback from the announcement of the Q3A mission pack. We'll have another installment of From The Hardcore Side, and Lee'Mon sorts through all the submissions to find who won the Name The Quakefish contest. Hellchick says we'll be releasing more mission pack info fairly soon as well. Add that to giving away our giant chocolate Q3A symbol, the regular features, and Hellchick debuting her awesome Q3A levels, and you've got one packed week coming up!
Question of the Damned
This week, as like many others, we're left without a reader-submitted question. I'm beginning to think you people don't love me! Oh well. I ask the question of myself and my colleagues: "What are you looking forward the most to in the Q3A mission pack?"
I'm most looking forward to finding some way of insinuating myself into the mission pack. I will camp on Steed's doorstep to get a Hellchick model in, or send bouquets to Christian Antkow and the rest to find some way of getting a Hellchick reference into a map. Be prepared, men, for I am on a mission!
Levels more aimed at teamplay. And catching Hellchick on one with a Chaigun in my hand. Run boss RUN!!
Lee'Mon: [Editor's Note]: We're so sorry Lee'Mon couldn't contribute his valuable wisdom to this segment, but he's too busy herding cattle. Seriously.
Playing all those swank new teamplay levels in DM mode. That and using the new weapons. Oh, sweet nailgun, come back to me!
Remember, if you want to submit a Question of the Damned, just e-mail me!
Spyke's Profound Thought
Aargh. I think my teeth hurt already, and it's only 9:30 in the morning when I'm writing this. I think I may have to abstain from candy for the next year or two. Unless I want dentures. Anyways, how about that mission pack? Looks pretty darned swank to me. Except for the team modes. Team gaming doesn't sit with me well. But I'll be sure to play DM on the new levels.. The question begs however, will this really be enough? I mean, UT had you playing with bots in team games out of the box.. That's not to say that I'm defecting, just stirring the poo, that's all. :)
