Wow, can you believe it's July already? I can't. I've been doing PQ in Review now for approximately 10 months. I started with PQ on August 4th, 1999. Geez, that was a long time ago. Do I get some sort of prize? Durn it, I didn't think so. Anyways, here's the Review!
The week kicked off with a fantastic editorial from Sven; "Genesis of the Storytelling Engine" goes into a detailed backstory of id's single player storyline in Quake 2, and hypothesizes on a storytelling engine being created in the future, to make single player game creation easier. Next we had the article that caused a poopload of e-mail; the Q3A Easter Egg Guide! Yes, that's right, this is a comprehensive guide to the easter eggs you'll find in Q3A; we recieved a lot of e-mail on ones that we missed, so thanks! Please stop now! And please stop attaching pictures! I'm on a 2400 baud modem! Because Hellchick returned from doing Dallas, the PQ Poll made its return! This week, you readers are asked questions on your video cards, mouse inversion, and what BSP stands for, because Graeme Devine doesn't know! Of course, we of the GSI/PQ crew give our humorous commentary on last week's results! As we near the end of the patching period for Quake Baby v2.0, we had a repeat of Dear Xian, which still proves entertaining, reading it the second time. For all you rabid fans, Mynx will be back next week, so get your sick e-mail ready! You eager beavers itching for more of Lee'Mon's Generations story were appeased this week, with Chapter 3 of the critically-acclaimed novella; watch for more next week. The latest PQ Mailbag was not one to disappoint! Featuring 3 pages jam-packed with letters and commentary on the latest editorial, Leftover Gibs, and much, much more, you definitely get your money's worth, considering it's free! I should start charging. News pimp supreme and Hardcore Legend Pappy R kicked out the latest From the Hardcore Side, giving all you readers Pappy's secret teamplay strategies! In this week's TechTips, Love2Play gives the complete lowdown on how to set up a Q3A server, for all of you who didn't know already!
Coming next week, we've got a new editorial for you (like every week), chapter 4 of Generations appears, Hellchick takes a look at the silliest Quake mods, and perhaps the "Design Hellchick's Lair" contest will come around. Add that to the usual features, and the return of Mynx, and that's the next week here at the Big Fuzzy!
Question of the Damned
Because I'm feeling particularily giddy today, and because no readers came up with a better question (or a question at all, for that matter), I ask of myself and my colleagues: "What's your favorite PQ hosted site, and why?"
Ooh, now see, if I tell you my favorite hosted site, all the other sites will get pissed. But I'll do it anyway; currently it's LvL. I'm a sucker for new Q3A maps. Mmmmmm... maps.
[As hosting manager, Pappy could not answer this, so he has elected to shoot himself in the head.]
Modesty's all good and nice, but I'd by lying if I didn't say WireHead Studios... ;^)
I miss Cranky Steve's Haunted Whorehouse. Sure, he's got a new site up at SomethingAwful.com, but it's just not the same...
LvL.. The best level site I've ever seen. I love it to death!
Remember, if you want to submit a Question of the Damned, just e-mail me!
Spyke's Profound Thought
That's right, Pre-Holiday Review. I'm going on vacation again, to Vancouver for a week, and that means next week's PQ in Review will be written from "on the road". Never mind the fact that I'm flying there, but still. The July 7th Mailbag will still be written by me, but Hellchick will be your special guest for the July 14th Mailbag! Remember how she did last time? Let's hope she improves! Anyways, this should probably have to do with gaming. I still need to buy MDK2. I've been playing a lot of emulated wrestling games on SNES. They're tons of fun! Spork!
