You know, I've been meaning to do away with this opening paragraph for a while. The majority of the time, I just BS my way through it, and then say something like "on with the news", or something equally stupid. But this time, I'm being completely honest, and it doesn't seem to be working well. Spork wh00t pw33n r0x0r4g3. Let's get to the news, before I go crazy.
Well, let's dive right in! The week kicked off with an interview with Paul Jaquays of id Software, conducted at QuakeCon. Our fearless leader quizzed the level designer on the evolution of mod-making, QuakeCon itself, and the new Doom game. A short interview, but Paul packs in a lot of detail to make it all worthwhile! Next, Hellchick treated us all to her QuakeCon2K pictures! Very cool pics, showing what the whole setup was like for those unfortunate enough (like me) not to attend. I have a hard time believing that these were all the pictures she took, and I'd hazard a guess to say that there were probably a lot more from the toga party. News pimp supreme Pappy R sat down with the members of the Nehahra Project to conduct a nice big interview about their epic multi-hour movie and the totally new game that features a lot of modification to the Quake engine, and is looking extremely swank. Wednesday, as always, brought the PQ Poll, asking about PQ hosted sites, machinima, and what kinds of mods you like. Of course, the GSI/PQ crew adds our smarmy commentary to the results of the past week. As Mynx's latest addition is feeling under the weather, we dipped into the archives this week, and pulled out Dear John! Yes, that's right, Smarty Man John Romero answers readers questions from a while back, and also gives his entire hair care routine; this column's one to bookmark, as Romero is world-renowned for his hair. Yours truly returned with a 3-page PQ Mailbag, featuring talk about all-female tournaments, a page of Leftover Gibs, and the ubiquitous incoherence. Pappy's latest From the Hardcore Side kicks off a series of articles on 1vs1 play, giving you the scoop on the strategies you'll need to make your opponents.. um.. well, lose. Love2Play kicked it up big time with the latest TechTips, with this one being all about GameSpy Arcade, the latest, greatest new server browser (and more!) from us folk here at GameSpy Industries. L2P tells you what everything is, and how to get it working. What more could you ask for?
Coming up in the next week, Pappy strikes it rich with an interview with Alliance Games, and yet another From the Hardcore Side! We'll also have more 1 on 1 challenges from the trusty (and sometimes rusty) PQ staff, as well as a possibility of more Generations from Lee'Mon. Add that to all the regular features that you've come to love and.. um.. that's a whole lot of stuff!
Question of the Damned
Well, Pappy's at his StagLAN, and Lee'Mon was last seen chasing rabbits down holes, so this week, a smaller PQ staff answers the question: "If you could get into one aspect of mod design (level design, modelling, coding), what would it be?"
It would be coding for sure. I love programming, and I used to do a lot of it. Also, I suck at level design, so that's out.
H4x0r1ng. Definitely h4x0r1ng.
Programming, definitely. It's just so satisfying on so many levels, and is definitely a lot more "brain work" than level design or art, in my opinion. I like it when my brain hurts.

Spyke's Profound Thought
Here's a thought: Why are weekends so slow for news? 90 percent of the time, when I'm covering news on Sundays, there is so little that I fear for my job and/or life. Anyways, the FAKK 2 demo is amazing. Absolutely beautiful texture work, ace levels, and oh yes, that animation. Mmm. Forget Lara Croft, you sickos, Julie Strain is where it's at. Now that I'm done being a male pig, I'll say that the gameplay is great. I don't think it's at the Heretic II level of 3rd person goodness, but it's close. Hats off to Ritual! Now I'm waiting for Alice.. :)
