Yes, I managed to name a PQ in Review after my favorite Scorpions song. Not that there are that many that are good in the first place. But I digress; not a whole lot of stuff at PQ this week, as there are some changes going down. Exactly what, you'll find out tomorrow. Mwahaha!
The week semi-kicked off with an interview with the developers of Q3Fortress. Conducted by Hellchick at QuakeCon, this interview gets really deep into the story behind the mod and what's going on with it, as well as a cameo appearance by id CEO Todd Hollenshead; a definite must-read. As we've been suffering from a dearth of poll questions lately, we presented the Retro PQ Poll, featuring all old questions that have been changed to actually be relevant. Of course, the GSI/PQ crew includes their humorous commentary. Mynx answered questions about bananas and then went fishin' in the latest Dear Mynx, which is probably not the best thing for any younger readers, if you know what I'm saying. Let's just say the first time I read Mynx, it scarred me for life. After an epic tale of computer problems, Lee'Mon came through with Chapter 7 of Generations, which is probably the largest chapter to date, and definitely the best written; sure to keep fans of this serial novella on the edge of their seats. And finally, Love2Play came through with the trusty TechMailbag, answering all those technical questions that you wouldn't entrust to a guy like me, who had his video card not seated properly for a year and a half. True story.
Hopefully, on Monday, we'll have a great editorial on id's decision to create a new Doom game. We'll also have the Levels of the Week on Monday, as well as the big announcement that I'm teasing you with, and an interview with someone very special. Add that to Generations, the PQ Poll, the PQ Mailbag, our feature on the Alan Smithees of machinima, TechTips, and Dear Mynx, and that's a helluva lot of content this upcoming week!
Question of the Damned
Well, since we have a brand new news monkey, Ash, I've decided to exercise my seniority and make him come up with a QotD. His submission: "What console command would you like to see added to Quake 3?"
As I've stated before, I'd like to see the /cg_dontsuck 1 command added. I believe that I speak for the entire community when I say this is desperately needed. Maybe I'll start a petition.
"Drop Item" Bindable command like in Quake 2 except when used as /bind e "drop Rocket Launcher", your enemy drops it for you. oh what fun.
/sv_nochat 1. Will you people please shut up?!
I'd like to see "player_newbie," which is set to 1 by default. When player_newbie is enabled, everything in Q3A is dumbed down to what I commonly refer to as the "idiot factor," a state so incredibly simple that the average moron (not just first-time gamers, we're talking about pure morons here) wouldn't have any questions to ask.
The game remains in this state until the player is no longer a newbie, at which point he/she figures out how to edit their config or use the console to set player_newbie to 0.
"more_boobies." 'Nuff said.
You'll have to excuse L33t'M0n... he's still in awe over the fact that "Heavy Metal: FAKK2" has a second physics engine devoted entirely to Julie Strain's chest.
Remember, if you want to submit a Question of the Damned, just e-mail me!
Spyke's Profound Thought
So am I totally torturing you people by not informing y'all of these phantom changes that are happening here? Probably not, but oh well. I never actually finished the FAKK2 demo; helluva long loading times. Perhaps once I get my new system in about a month, I'll take another crack at it. But from what I saw, it's definitely well done. Hats off to the gang at Ritual, you crazy men! This time next week, we'll have a lot more news for you. Rejoice!
