Has that ever happened to you? Feeling old, that is. Sure, I'm only 17, but still.. I remember when everybody didn't have high-speed net access.. when everybody didn't have an awesome 3D card.. when people were still playing Doom on a regular basis. I remember when we didn't have 14 year old kids pw33ning the hell out of everyone at international LAN events. I also remember when there wasn't a PQ in Review. These days are better now, methinks.
Nothing pleases our readers more than add-ons for Quake and its various sequels. Thus, I begin with the "otWs". Like the Levels of the Week, Model of the Week (Ultramonkey), and Mod of the Week (Corkscrew). This week saw the debut of our brand new feature, Rants & Raves! Our rant this week was on camping, and, as explained, the PQ staff was there to rant some more on it! We got a veritable double poopload of feedback from this, as was shown in this week's PQ Mailbag! Yes, read as Lee'Mon and Demonwench dissect your incoherent feedback, trying to make sense out of it, while entertaining the whole ungrateful lot of you! Of course this week we had the PQ Poll, which, along with its results, provides the most fun per character out of any page here on the Big Fuzzy. Honest, I checked. We monitor these things. You love them, I love them, Pappy and Ash love doing them; it's another Top Ten list! This time, we've got the Top Ten Reasons Quake 1 Rocks! We love shining our spotlight on mod teams that are doing good, and that's what the Big Fuzzy Focus is for; this week, the focus is on Annihilation! I promised them to you in the news, and we got them; brand new Exclusive Q3F Screenshots!
Coming up in the next week or so, we've got some more Top Ten lists to satisfy your numeral hunger. We'll also have a From the Hardcore Side Mailbag, and a very special contest to be named later. Add that to the (noun) of the Week features, the Poll, the Mailbag, and all the rest of your favorite features, and that's one.. um.. really good week.
Question of the Damned
So I was sitting around daydreaming, like I'm wont to do, dreaming of the day that I, too, will work at id Software. Then it occured to me; there are some pretty cool people there. Thus, my question to my peers: "If you could hang out for a day with any id developer, who would it be, and why?"
Hmm. I've kind of hung out with most of them except for Kevin Cloud and Carmack. I'd have to say Carmack.
John Carmack. Wait..no, Adrian Carmack. Graeme..umm, Duffy. OK, uhh, Willits, no...wait it's Jaquays. Ah crap! Damn you Spyke, now my head hurts.
Carmack. It took me two years, but I finally understand the words that come out of that boy's mouth... ;^)
I'd want to hang with American McGee, Brian Hook, Michael Abrash, John Cash, Paul Steed, and Brandon James. Huh? What do you mean they're gone!?
The programmer in me says Programming Deity John Carmack, but I think Christian Antkow would be the coolest. He's the Cliffy B of id! Wait, bad analogy..
Remember, if you want to submit a Question of the Damned, just e-mail me!
Spyke's Profound Thought
Okay, I've got a real profound question for id Software here; when the hell is Team Arena going to come out? I'm waiting here, money in hand, to buy it. id needs to spend time working on the new Doom game. If you guys over at id need some help, I'm experienced at.. hrm.. where's my resume? Ah, yes, here we go. I'm experienced at writing, and making popcorn. Maybe if id needs some help, they shouldn't contact me. How 'bout them Blair Witch games? I can't wait to get my hands on those. I think that's about it, other than my prediction; Yankees in 5.
