The PlayStation 2 had its North American launch a few days ago. Whoopee. Yeah, yeah, Unreal Tournament was one of the launch games. So what? In case you haven't heard, Carmack doesn't like it, and his word is gospel! Thus, I (and I'm sure everyone else at PQ) am nonplussed about it. On with the review.
Yes, yes, you all like the weekly stuff first, so I'll oblige. Here are the Levels of the Week, and the Model of the Week, Skrag. Now the Mod of the Week is a very special thing; it's the first Quake 1 MotW in 2 years! Yes, this is a special thing, for our MotW this week is Nehahra, and it's absolutely beautiful. Time to reinstall Quake 1 again! The latest Rants & Raves, this time focussing on the age-old issue of ping equalization (read: HPB vs LPB). Of course, it got a ton of feedback in this week's PQ Mailbag, where Lee'Mon and Demonwench had their way with the aforementioned feedback, plus letters from readers on "other" subjects. In preparation for the Beta 1F Q3Fortress release, we had more Exclusive Q3F Screenshots that aren't really exclusive anymore, seeing as how the mod was released yesterday. Perennially the most entertaining portion of PQ, the PQ Poll showed up yet again. Things to check! Questions to answer! Marvel at the names in bold! This week's Dear Mynx features a kid who's in love with Lara Croft, bondage, and Spinal Tap lyrics! No, I'm not kidding. Our top ten list for this week was The Top Ten Reasons Quake 2 Rocks, and they're great reasons at that. And finally, Lee'Mon and I broke our dry spell of 4 months by working up the latest Gauntlet; this one's on the 1.25y physics changes, and is sure to create some massive feedback!
Coming up in the next week, we've got more of the Top Ten lists that you're all adoring. Also, there's a top secret contest that will be announced; I can say no more. Expect a new Big Fuzzy Focus as well. Other than that, we've got all the regular stuff you've come to enjoy, like the Poll, Mailbag, Dear Mynx, and the myriad of other things that make PQ the funnest place ever!
Question of the Damned
So I was sitting around, trying to decide which of the many reader-submitted questions to present to my colleagues for consideration, when Fargo asked me a fantastic question; I thought it appropriate to use it as this week's QotD: "What's your favorite Q3A model of all time (including user models), and why?"
Visor has always been my favourite, even though I use doom more. The look, and character of it just scream Q3 to me.
I like Uriel. Mysterious...muscular...smells faintly of brimstone.
Actually, my current favorite is the combination of sarge/krusade for a body, and visor/gorre for a head. You ought to try it... it looks like a model of its own. Another fantastic combination (one for the ladies) is hunter/harpy for the body, slash/yuriko for the head. Remember, there's more to the headmodel command than sticking Orbb's head on everything... ;^)
I love the new Ranger and Doom. Just because seeing those classics wearing the latest technology is a dream come true. =)
Doom, by far, for pretty much the same reasons as Ash; I love to have old friend back around. Now where's that Commander Keen model?
Remember, if you want to submit a Question of the Damned, just e-mail me!
Spyke's Profound Thought
No, I don't have a PlayStation 2. No, I don't want one. Yes, you heard that right, I don't want one. I want a Dreamcast. Yes, a Dreamcast. Why? For Crazy Taxi and the UFC game. That's why. Yes, I'm well aware that the PlayStation 2 is compatible with PlayStation games, and controllers. I don't care. I don't even have a PlayStation. I'm also aware that the PlayStation 2 plays DVDs. I already have a DVD player, a very good one, in fact. Now go away.
