PQ In Review: Take On Me
Yeah, that's right. I know everybody wants to take me on. Especially those losers from over at PlanetHalf-Life. Just because nobody likes you is no reason to lash out at upstanding members of society. So as soon as I have a lot of free time on my hands, I'll be issuing some open challenges, because some people think that I don't even play Quake. I'll show them! What's that, Pappy? Get to work? Oh.. okay.
And of course, when I get to work, I begin with the weeklies; the Levels of the Week, Model of the Week, Shockwave, and the Mod of the Week, Super Quake! Ever had a great mod, but just released it at the wrong time? Hell, it happens with games, look at Heretic II! Banshee goes over this in his editorial, "Shafted by Father Time", where he takes a look at why timing can be everything in a mod release. If there's a word I would choose to use to describe the PQ Poll, it would be "ubiquitous", or "omnipresent". It's always there, along with the past week's results! This week's Dear Mynx explores male use of vibrators, why jerks get chicks, and how to find a girl geek. Mynx dispenses the sagest advice around, fellow geeks, so get reading! In the first of two mailbags this week, Lee'Mon and Demonwench battle feedback ferociously in the new PQ Mailbag! Demonwench still scares me. Boasting gems like "Rodent Arena", and "Gardening 3: Arena", this week's Top Ten list, the Top Ten Mods We Don't Want To See, is a doozy. I actually want to see Embargo Arena, however. And finally, the second of two mailbags this week, the From the Hardcore Side Mailbag, boasting a whole one letter, is Pappy's chance to slap down the scoop about LAN parties and hardcore gaming, answering your questions!
Coming up this week, because you just love 'em, another Top Ten list! We've got a new Big Fuzzy Focus as well, to compensate for the fact that there wasn't one last week. If Pappy isn't lazy, you just might see a new Rants & Raves, too! Add that to all the regular features, and divide by the coefficient, and then you have the value of your variable. No, wait.. you have a jam-packed week at PQ!
Question of the Damned
I've been reading a lot lately, and have been looking at a lot of programming and technical computer books, so I came up with a very logical question. That question being: "What book would you like to see written by any past or present id Software developer?"
Paul Steed's "Guide to Boobies"!
"Game Engines for Dummies" by John Carmack which would explain a whole bunch in easier terms than some of his plan file updates.
Hmm.. I'd like to see John Cash's diet plan in book form.
I'd like to see a book by John Carmack about all those Good Things(tm) that he's came up with over the years. Not just how to code stuff, but the best way to code stuff for efficiency in production and practice. I'd buy it. =)
I'd go with Jason Blochowiak's "Whatever Happened To Me?". Bonus points if you can tell me who he is.
Remember, if you want to submit a Question of the Damned, just e-mail me!
Spyke's Profound Thought
I'm still addicted to Tony Hawk 2. I really can't help it. It's just so exciting, and now that I've made my way through career mode, and unlocked all the cheats, it's even more tempting! There's kid mode, moon physics.. hell, I can even play as Spiderman! There must be some sort of antidote for this. Who can help me?
