It's been a hectic week, so we'll cut straight to the reviewing! Here's your Levels of the Week, Model of the Week, the amazingly skinned Spacemarine, and the Mod of the Week, the ambidextrous action-featuring Akimbo! This week's Rants & Raves touched on the splash damage bug in Q3A, a topic that was also touched on in the last Gauntlet. We've got some interesting responses from us PQ folk on this issue. Knock knock.. who's there? Why, the PQ Poll! Asking the questions you want to be asked, and giving the past week's results! What with the Team Arena demo coming out, we decided to work up a Team Arena Demo Guide! That's right, let Hellchick tell you about strategies for the map that's included. Nevermind the fact that you're fools if you're taking tactile information from Hellchick. This week's Dear Mynx is all retro, with an amazing Embarrassment Spotlight from Jake Simpson of Raven Software. To aid all you fair people out there, we've got A Newbie's Adventures in WFA! mGlucose tackled the high learning curve of this Q3A mod, and made his experiences known! And finally, to answer all your technical questions, Love2Play slaved over a hot stove to bring you the TechTips Mailbag!
Wow, even though we had a content-filled week, we've still got more stuff flying in your face! Within the next week, we'll have a new Top Ten list and another Rants & Raves. In addition, there'll be the very second Hardcore Side Mailbag, and a hella cool new Big Fuzzy Focus. Add that to everything that you've come to expect on a weekly basis, and you're going to have a hard time keeping up!
Question of the Damned
Given the release of the Quake 3: Team Arena demo earlier on this week, I just had to ask: "What do you think of the Team Arena demo?"
The demo tells me that Team Arena is everything I was hoping it would be. If I have to commit felonies to get a copy of the full game, I will.
Oh baby! I love the new treats and can't wait to see what it brings to Q3A teamplay when it's released. Then there's what the mod community will do with it, which opens up another new load of goodies as well as expanding on what we already have seen. I guess you could say I liked it.
What do I think of the TA demo? I think id Software put it up the very NIGHT after I left my T1 connection. I THINK I've spent the last four days on vacation, on a crappy 33.6 modem that disconnects every five minutes. I THINK I took one look at "30 hours remaining" and said to hell with it. I THINK this isn't the first time id's released something major while I've been on vacation. I THINK there's a mass conspiracy to keep majorly fun gaming out of my hands for as long as possible!!!
I think it'd be great if I could run it. Good thing I'm getting a new system next week!
Remember, if you want to submit a Question of the Damned, just e-mail me!
Spyke's Profound Thought
But seriously, folks.. what I did try of Team Arena, I was very impressed with. The new menu and HUD stuff is out-freakin-standing. I can't help but feel that if Q3A was like this, it would have a larger percentage of people playing it. The in-game menu stuff is awesome, and id should be commended on its integration. I haven't had a chance to try any of the new game modes, but I'll be doing so next week, with the new computer. Expect to see me online, pw33ning everyone around! Before I forget, happy birthday Dave and Rebecca!
