Quake 2 server tips
Can I create my own server? If I can, how other players can
join ? how I create an adrres for other people can join?
readers who may not notice, English as a second language translates
this question to: If I start a server, how do others join?
How do they find me?
are a few ways for people to find you. First you can simply
give your friends your IP address. To find it go to Start
Menu>Run then type: winipcfg [and hit OK]. It will bring
up a box that contains your IP Address. If you are on dial-up,
this number will change each time you connect to the internet.
Most cable and DSL IP addresses remain the same.
use ICQ or any other
type of instant message to send the IP address to your friends
so they can enter it in the game menu and join your server.
can also have your friends find your server on GameSpy3D.
If you set your server config up correctly, your server will
be listed on GameSpy3D. All they need is the name of it. Or
they can enter the IP address in the Unbound area and add
your server to their GameSpy3D list.

the heck do you jump and flip at the same time in Q3A??? or
jump and twirl around 360 degrees??
all visual. That's right, it's only eye-candy. When you move
your players forward or back while jumping, you will also
appear to others to be doing a back flip or flipping in mid-air.
It doesn't appear that way from your view, but that is what
others see. No tricks, it isn't really happening...it just
looks really cool!
Q3A config changes while online
I play Q3A SP and make changes to my config (movement keys,
weapon keys, etc., via the game's built-in interface), the
changes take effect and nothing is wrong. However, when I'm
online, having started a game via GameSpy, and I bind a key
to a particular function, my scroll wheel stops switching
weapons. The MWHEELUP and MWHEELDOWN bindings haven't changed,
but I can't scroll to switch weapons. It's not a major problem,
but I'm curious if anyone has some idea why this happens.
Maybe this will lead into a larger discussion of Q3A key binding
changes you make to the q3config.cfg , depending upon what
they are, are only temporary. Also, GameSpy3D has the configuration
in Games and Filters that you select if GameSpy3D will choose
the rate, name etc. as well as in your Player Profile you
can choose what config to use. For example if you made a config
called moves.cfg and put all the binds you wanted for your
moves in it, then you could select that in your Player Profile
in GameSpy3D and it would guarantee that your moves.cfg would
might also want to make sure that you have the latest drivers
for your mouse. Quake 3 is very particular about the mousewheel.
