Subject: Setting up an AQ2 server
Now, I've just downloaded action quake, and set it up under "action" in my quake II folder. The question is,
how do you integrate it with the rest of quake II??? I heard something about autoexec.cfg or something? am i way off track? anyway, I appreciate your help
on the subject.
I've got a network here @ home of about 7 machines of which i am administrator of. Dad and mum have their own
machines, i have 4 and my brodda has 1. We often have little deathmatches in the house and attend LANparties regularly in my neighborhood. what I need to
do is set up action quake so I can use it on a LAN game. I know you can rename the folders and make it look there, but is there a proper way of doing it?
I know how to set key bindings, but concerning your GameSpy thing, which I don't use because I hardly play iNET games, so I'm inexperienced in that area.
if there is a quick way of doing the whole thing up i would like to know about it, if not I will just go through your pages.
The homepage for AQ2 is Telefragged
There they have a FAQ (also the server file) and in the FAQ they lead you to a server utility AQ2Seal
to run your AQ2 server easily.
Also, check out LanMaster at LanParty.com It runs a LAN master server so your players can easily find the game
when using GameSpy.
For Action Quake 2 configs, I highly recommend my partner Deathlok on our personal website Gamepower .
There he has put together the most comprehensive configs for Action Quake 2 players I have seen. As well as other regular deathmatch configs. Head
over to our Quake 2 section for his brilliance.
Subject: Quake 3 skins
I downloaded some cool skins, but when I play online my buddy tells me Im Sarge..?..Help. And their was an invisible
player on Q3A, whats that about, Invisible all the time. pissed me off, if they can make themselfs invisible Im sure they can give themselfs quad-damage all
the time, what do you think?
Your buddy needs to also have the skin in his baseq3 folder. If he doesn't have the skin, it will default you to
looking like Sarge to him.
The invisible player is a cheat used by llamas. Totally lame and if the server admin finds out, hopefully will ban his
IP from the server forever. The only way to avoid this is to play on pure servers. Not a guarantee because cheaters find new ways everyday and who
knows why?! Like it's fun cheating?! "ya, I 0wNeD j00 when I cheated" uhuh....... reeeeeal proud. Anyway... pure servers
don't allow for modified dll's in your baseq3 folder and will not allow cheaters on the server.
Subject: A few questions
First I would like to say that I really like your site and find it
extremely useful for checking out the lastest uake 3 gaming news and
resources. Really, I'm not just butt kissing cause I have a question:-)
I have a few questions about tweaking Quake 3 to my new machine. I
finished building my new computer, Win 2K, Asus P3C-D mobo, Dual 733's,
384 mg RDRAM, and 64 mg Geforce 2 GTS and I wanted to get Quake to run
with dual processors. I changed the autoexec.cfg to smp "1" cause I
read that's what you have to change to get it to run dual processors.
It started up but it actually ran slower, about 20 fps slower. I
figured that maybe I had to re-install Quake, so I did but then it
wouldn't even start up with smp set to 1. The screen would just change
white and hang there. Any ideas?
Second, I was wondering you you knew anythings about overclocking
the geforce 2 card. I have checked around and appearently I am supposed
to get all the newest drivers (which i did) and go to display> geforce 2
gts> additional properties, and in there is a tab were I can change the
chip and memory speeds. I don't have that tab though. I thought that I
might be missing it just cause I am using Win2k, but I checked on my
Win98 machine and it wasn't there either. Is there some other thing I
am supposed to be looking for or have to download? Thanks for your time
and for any help you can give me.
First of all, I'm jealous!!! Killer machine!
Next, you did make that setting set r_smp 1 right? However, there is no guarantee it will work still. Apparently NT is the
only "for sure" system for dual processors and Q3.
As for the tab for overclocking, in Win98 you have to enable the tab in the registry. Win2k I don't know, I never tried to
enable it there. The setting is:
|The end result in the Registry
Open Regedit (Start Menu, Run, type: regedit and hit OK) go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\NVIDIA Corporation. Look for the folder Global. If it isn't there, make it.
Then within that, the folder NVTweak. Again if it's not there make it. Then with NVTweak hilited go to Edit, choose New, then choose DWORD value. There you
will type CoolBits in place of New value(Case sensitive,, type it as shown here), then double click on it and add the number 3 to the value data. Close and
reboot your computer.
Then go back into your Display properties to your video card tabs and there will be a new tab for changing the clock speed of
your video card.
