Subject: Quake 3 Server
I´ve got a question. I´m looking for a program with which I can run a server that cycles through different maps.
It´s very annoying to always start a new server when I want to play another map, especially during LAN Games.
With UNREAL TOURNAMENT it´s very easy and a friend of mine thinks Quake sucks cause you can´t cycle maps.
I´m looking forward to your answer, thank you v.m.
You can do it the easy way with Q3Offline. All the setup is right there for you. You
can see our quick review of their software (free by the way) in our September 16th Mailbag
Otherwise, all you need is a map cycle in your server config as such:
seta m1 "fraglimit 50; map q3dm16 ; set nextmap vstr m2"
seta m2 "fraglimit 50; map q3dm10 ; set nextmap vstr m3"
seta m3 "fraglimit 50; map q3dm18 ; set nextmap vstr m4"
seta m4 "fraglimit 50; map q3mexx1 ; set nextmap vstr m5"
seta m5 "fraglimit 50; map q3dm14 ; set nextmap vstr m6"
seta m6 "fraglimit 50; map lloydmdm2 ; set nextmap vstr m1"
Simply copy this into your server config, change the maps and fraglimits if you want and add +vstr m1 to your command
line for starting the server. It's really that simple.
Subject: Quake 3 Win32 on Linux
hi .. i have quake3 full version... and i want to play in LINUX CONSOLE .. Do i need some files so i could start
the game.. (linux-quake3 files)???
Believe it or not, idsoftware themselves wrote a guide on how to install Win32 Quake 3 and use Linux Point Releases.
You make a directory for example /home/me/games/Quake3/baseq3
Mount your cdrom and copy the pak0.pk3 from your cdrom to the Quake3/baseq3 directory.
Download and install the point release 1.17 found at FilePlanet
Create your server configs and off you go. The best Linux server guide is at Scarab.

ever since the latest build.
I ran 1.17 one day to play and it said that i had a invalid Cd key so i
checked and yes the 1.25 build was out so I installed that and now it
wont connect to any servers at all, wont even find them, so with 1.17 it
would find the servers but not load them, but with 1.25 it wont even
find any servers=(
i even reinstalled and checked all my connections but.....
thanks you very much!
There is a scary phenomena going on around here. My personal theory is that something went terribly wrong with
id's Master server when it went down a few weeks ago. I have seen more and more errors, cdkeys in use, client_unknown_to_auth, all kinds of
bizarre Quake 3 issues.
My advice is this:
Do not install 1.25y point release unless you intend to play standard games such as Free For All or CTF. There
is no mod support for the new point release.
If you do install the 1.25 point release, apparently the pak4.pk3 has to be deleted from baseq3. Now for the cdkey
issue, I have the feeling that somehow the q3key file is becoming corrupt upon verification through the id Master. Don't ask me how, and I have
no way to prove it. But perfectly innocent player whom have played with great success until now, suddenly have an invalid cdkey. My advice
is to open the q3key file with notepad and compare it VERY carefully to your cd case.
As for 1.25 servers... using GameSpy Arcade and their specially designed
filter, or GameSpy 3D and their advanced filters will eliminate the struggle to find them. Yes, there are
barely any. The Quake 3 community is almost a year old and have no intention of giving up their beloved mods. Too bad idsoftware didn't
even notice before releasing this latest point release :(
