Subject: Opened the pak file and screwed up!
I have a big problem, I just tried to open the ok0.pk3 file in my q3. when doing so I tried to open with notepad the file was
to big. so i opened with wordpad. "The problem", this changed all my maps, weapon downloads in to config files not only in my q3 but seems like all file
related to q3 or maybe even all those files associated with that file type. is their any way I can restore those folders to that formate.
thank u for your time
To open your Quake 3 Arena pak files you need to use Winzip. They are "packages"
that have to be opened. They contain files. Not text.
To restore your current problem, in Windows Explorer go to View>Folder Options>File Types or to Tools>Folder
Options>File Types (Depending on your version of Windows) and locate the .pk3 extension and choose Edit. Then change the program that opens it in the Edit box.
You now have control of your file associations :)
Subject: Team Arena missing something?
One thing that made Q3A sell for me was that I could modify how many bots would be in a skirmish as well as the number of
kills/time limit to set. Q3TA seems to have left this out, or am I missing something? Do you know of a way that I can increase this crap about 3 people playing to
5 kills? The games last all of 4 minutes or something...that sucks...(just my opinion). Is there anything I can do to up the limits and number of computer players
Also, is there a way to make the computer play as some of my custom models? I notice that I have like...6 or 7 screens worth
of models when choosing my own player, but when choosing enemy, there's only 2 and neither of which contain my cool ones like Homer Simpson (not really
cool...more like funny). What can I do in that situation too that will allow me to play against Johnny 5, a woman on a lion, and other strange models?
As far as I have been able to tell, the Team Arena game chooses your bots based on game type and the classes involved. It doesn't
lend itself to custom bots, it has a variety based on Team Arena specific play.
As for your other settings, you are right that it isn't as easy as Quake 3 skirmish was. But Team Arena was meant to be more
competitive I believe. In Single play, you choose your level of difficulty and get your a$$ kicked on hardcore.
If you want to define the parameters of the match, go to Startserver and set it all up there. Choose Local instead of
Internet etc.. and it will be only on your computer. You can add bots (the choices given in the menu) but at least set the fraglimit and timelimit etc.. so you
don't end the game in 4 minutes anymore.
Subject: Quake 2 mod on LAN
I don't know if you can help me or not. But I am looking on how to run a mod
on a LAN. A selected group of us in a office wanna play quake 2 during lunch
and we wanna run action quake. But we have no clue on how to startup the
mod. Please could you help with this
Start with basics; everyone has the mod in their Quake 2 folder right? Ok, I thought so. Now, start a dedicated
server as we showed you in our Quake 2 Server Setup guide. You can see there that you can customize your
LAN game to run with anything you want. Then all you need to add in your batch file is +game action and off it goes. Be sure to look at the readme files in
Action Quake 2 also.
