choice depends on what you think your future is and what CPU
you have decided on. Along with price of course.
aren't concerned with AGP slots, or having plenty of PCI slots,
or it's compatiblity to running graphics. This is a server
box, you won't be playing on it. Like I told you earlier,
I had an old motherboard I had changed out of my computer
because it ran AGP terrible, well it was still good for running
the Celeron and overclocking. So I saved myself money there.
And to begin with, the motherboard only cost me $69 a year
ago. The point here, shop for an inexpensive motherboard,
you're not looking for the big fancy stuff.
question depends again on what game and how many players you
are going to try to have on your server. A good place to start
in my opinion is 256 megs. Under that and you are asking for
a slow server that your friends will complain about. And RAM
prices are very good right now, so do it!
case for your box is a personal choice. They range from $29
on up. Let's try to remember we are trying to build a box
on a budget, not impress friends with a cool looking case.
now you're thinking "what about sound card?" Answer:
do you really need sound? And do you want to spend money on
speakers for a computer you won't play on? There is no need
for a sound card.
what about a mouse, keyboard and OMG! a monitor!!!! Well friends
if you haven't heard, there is a little gem called a "switchbox".
With this you can use ONE mouse, ONE keyboard and, ONE monitor.
Yes, I just saved you big bucks since it only cost me $39,
and saved ALOT of space. Have a look at my setup right here:
| The flick of a switch views the server.
you see not only my set up with the switchbox at an arms reach,
but ONE mouse, keyboard and monitor!
