Freeware Total Conversion of the 3D Game Quake

In my plans "Human Decision Required" is meant as a very philological Total Conversion Project of the new generation 3D games (currently Quake by iD Software Inc., but in the future there could be a development for Quake 2, Hexen II or Unreal when available).
This project is based upon the evergreen Sci-Fi series of the seventies Space:1999 featuring Martin Landau, Barbara Bain and Barry Morse.
None of the original movie pictures, frames or shots is being used in the development of this total conversion. Namely, no original photograph or similar copyrighted material (exceptions are credited in the credits section) . The process is much more slow and original.
All the artwork, textures, models, sprites are drawn and built from the scratch by the author.
Please give a look at HDR - Behind the scenes to see how this project is being carried out. That page will also contain some tip of Quake editing which could be useful somehow.
The game plot :
You are the pilot of Eagle 8 (Space 1999 spacecraft) who will have to fight his
way through an apparently empty Moonbase Alpha to reach the Main Mission
where your fellows are imprisoned after the massive attack of the most frightening aliens of the original series.
Your friends are waiting for your daring rescue.
Gameplay style:
You will be weaker than in the original Quake, while monsters will be more subtle and die harder.
Less blood (sparks and ashes instead) but more, much more suspense and fear... you asked for it!
Almost forgot, you'd better not to cheat...don't say I didn't warn you...
Beta, demos and QuickTime's :
A rough, early, playable beta of the main mission level is available (just a taste). I'll release a patch soon to play original levels through S1999 interface. The final, complete episode will be released after the beta testing phase. Meanwhile I hope to make available many new QuickTime files and demos...
Game customisations:
All the screens and score bars are new.
(please, see
screenshots )

All the sounds will be replaced with new effects. I'm choosing the more similar to those we heard in the show .

The patch will allow you to play original Quake
as you were an alphan.
For children and for all of you who, like me, got bothered because of all those bloody effects in the original game, I'm working on a setting that will change blood in to sparks and the various "gibs" in to ashes...
Help:
I'm learning Quake-C... but if some good soul could help me on that or Multiplayer issues, I would improve both quality and speed it would be much appreciated!

Just two words from the author ...
To those who have always hoped to come back to the Moonbase Alpha...

I would like to dedicate this work and related newsletter to the large community of people who loved and still enjoy Space:1999.
(Interested in joining the Space:1999 mailing list? Get further info at www.space1999.net).

A particular dedication to Valentina Fiore
(member of the Space:1999 mailing list)
who, painfully for us, recently passed away in spite of her youth.
