Re-enter the Den if you dare!
When Scott "Banshee" Labrecque started telling me about the progress on the Loki's Revenge mod for Quake III, I was intrigued to say the least. I have many fond memories of my old days playing the original version for Quake 2 and all I could do was wonder what a new version would bring to flag grabbers everywhere. Would we lose the heated, animalistic action of Loki's to the differences between the games themselves? The original brought a sense of faster action to the slower pace of Q2, but would it have the same punch in the already frantic Q3A?
Well as most of you should know by now, the wait is over and the wondering has ceased. The mod is hot and packs a noticeable punch, even to Q3 where heated CTF action isn't new. Don't believe me? Try it for yourself, but find out what your in for first with some info from the mod's head honcho, Banshee.
Pappy: Tell us a bit about the project.
Banshee: The basic summary of the mod is "a offhand grapple mod based on the
classic Q2 CTF mod, Loki's Minions". The mod makes substantial changes to vanilla Q3 while at the same time staying very close to those Q3CTF roots. No new gametypes, gamePLAY changes are another matter. Extensive radio voice sets for detailed comms in matches which do not allow voicecomms to be used..
Pappy: Have you been encouraged by the Betas you've released or Alphas
you've tested under a closed atmosphere?
Banshee: Yes. It was obvious from some of the INTENSE "civil discussions" some people engaged in, that the interest in the mod was very much there, and that the people waiting for it were passionate about that interest.
Pappy: How long has the project been in development, and using this as a guide, how long do you expect it to take before it's a completed work you can sit back from and smile?
Banshee: Completed goods on the night of the 7th of May.. This means... come home from work, start the download for the mod, go see Van Helsing, and when they reutrn the mod will be there on their hard drive waiting to be installed and enjoyed :)
Well, in THIS part of it's development, the mod has been worked on 9 months (It's a boy!). The ACTF part of the development was about 3 years.
I've been smiling ever since several original Clan LM and LMCTF DevTeam members have dropped me email encouraging me. That alone was worth everything I've been through.
Next: More LRCTF!
