Five Generations - One Eternal Combat
following is the opening chapter from the story "Generations"
by our own Lee'Mon. The story, unveiled in parts, attempts
to expand on Quake III Arena's story by explaining the origins
of many of the characters, as well as how they found their
way into the Arena Eternal.
The story will be unveiled here at PlanetQuake, one chapter
per week. The end of the story presents a special epilogue
that takes the story beyond Quake III Arena, and into Generations
Arena, a project by WireHead Studios.
Regardless, the story presents an excellent glimpse into the
Q3A universe. So sit back, and enjoy the tale!

Part III: The Slipgaters
EPOCH: Mid-22st Century
LOCATION: Earth, UAC Command
Following the carnage of the Hell Wars, Earth lay in ruins. Battered, bruised, but not entirely beaten, the remaining inhabitants of the scorched planet found themselves starting over. Like disaster victims, they picked their way through the rubble, tended to the wounded and dead, and eventually banded together into small tribes. For months, daily duties consisted of demolishing crumbling buildings, disposing of demon corpses, and seeking out the requisite food, clothing, and shelter.
Organization and leadership was sporadic to nonexistent. The demons had worked their claws into virtually every form of government, allowing corruption from within. The attacks had started at government capitals and spread outward. Presidents, prime ministers, kings and queens alike met their end staring into the eyes of terror. Legislatures were obliterated, megacorporations crumbled under the force, and mass military forces fought the legions of hell on one end and mutiny on the other.
In the end, there was only the Corps.
Admittedly, it was sheer coincidence that the Union Aerospace Corporation was the only major military organization not situated on Earth. The UAC was also the first to be informed of the invasion, when Deimos disappeared and Phobos fell under attack. The UAC Corps first attempted to regain control of Phobos, only to find the moon all but cleared out. When the invasion reached Earth, the Corps declared martial law on Mars, and secured the use of every trained soldier and piece of military hardware they could lay their hands on. By the time contact was lost with Earth authorities, the UAC had assembled an assault force of its own.
The first wave of Corps soldiers set down on a scorched Earth. An initial check revealed the worst; the demons had destroyed virtually every major base of civilization, as if their invasion plans were carefully researched and hand-crafted. The resulting chaos had left the humans at the mercy of the demons... except for the Corps.
While the invasion continued, the Corps focused primarily on their own survival. Once the demons turned on one another, their work begun in earnest. Strike forces went out to dispose of the straggler demons. Rescue crews attempted to salvage any humans left over from the conflicts on Earth.
When the first reports came in from Earth, the brass at the UAC recognized the extent of the situation. While it was of primary importance to all to eradicate the demonic threat, the corporation also understood the significance of becoming the only major organization on Earth. After several careful meetings, the top UAC officials developed a plan to ensure that when order and stability was returned to Earth, it would be under the control of the UAC.
So, when roving bands of soldiers finally located someone of authority, it was the UAC. When a handful of victims saw their first glimpse of humanity on the horizon, it bore the UAC logo. When humans attempted to regain their humanity, their society, and their sense of dignity, they received a firm boost from the Union Aerospace Corporation.
Slowly, surely, and with zero resistance, the UAC came into power on Earth.
