PQ Mailbag

Whazzah?

Ash: It's been a little while since the last PQ Mailbag, and that's given me time to build up some pretty good feedback for you today. Mainly we're going to be tackling some general questions, and then some fun email that came into the feedback mailbox.

I'll Take Quake Support for $200, Chuck.

I was just thinking this morning about the resemblance between the Quake questions I answer in the mailbag and a set of game show questions. I mean, they are all catagorized, in varying difficulties, and humorous at times. Weird connection?

Subject: Teleporter and Medkit

I can't figure out how to activate these items, once acquired. Help!
Thanks,
Scott

There's a couple ways to handle this one. First, you can just hit Esc, then go to Setup, then go to Controls and then assign a key to Use Item. It's Enter by default. Or you can bind it from the console by hitting ~ and typing bind KEY +button2, where you replace KEY with whatever key you want to be Use Item. I think that question might even be in the manual.

Subject: How do you view Demo's

I want to watch the demo's of your PQ Top Dawg. I downloaded the files, but I do not know where to extract them. Little help?

Scott

This kind of question gets asked all the time, (as you'll see in a bit). And the answer is usually right there in front of you and better than I could provide, in the form of a readme.txt in the zip file itself. However, as a general rule, if you download a demo it goes into your /quake3/baseq3/demos directory, unless it's all nice and packed up in a .pk3 file, then it will usually go into your /quake3/baseq3 directory.

Subject: Soon i will give up!

I have major problems with killing the big white "thing" in the end of this game in Quake 1!!!! I played the very same game a long time ago, but do not remember this. Is he/she impossible to kill??? Please help me!!!!!!

Ha ha! I never thought I'd get to answer this question. When you're playing the final level, watch for the floating purple spikey thingie. That's actually the teleport destination for the teleporter you find at the top of the spiralish staircase full of baddies you run up in the last level. Wait until the purple spikey thingie is just about to go into "the big white thing" and then hop through the teleporter. Telefrag-a-licious.

Subject: request

hi. i didn't know were to send this message, but i have a request. i've been a big fan of quake3:arena, and, i am a big fan of final fantasy seven.i was wondering, if you were, at anytime, going to put a cloud model on the featured q3a models? i am not asking for you to put it on, but if you can, tell me were i can find a cloud model for q3a? thanks for your time.

I have to agree with you Nick, Final Fantasy 7 did kick butt. However, I'm not particularly sure if there is a Cloud model. However, if there is a Cloud model, you can probably find it at polycount. Good luck!

Next: More questions! (There's a surprise)
