What do you think of id's announcement to do DOOM?

Answer Votes
Percentage

Yeah, motherbitches!! It'll be best game ever because Doom was the bizbomb!
471
31.1%
It'll be the greatest game ever because Carmack is the god of 3D engines!
232
15.3%
I'm excited, but not that excited.
444
29.3%
Eh...I can take it or leave it.
131
8.6%
I'm not too thrilled with it - why not do something new?
210
13.8%
I was never a DOOM fan, so I was disappointed.
25
1.6%

Spyke: I don't really know right now; maybe when we see some content, I can make a judgement. Currently, I'm hoping it'll turn out cool.
Pappy-R: I was excited. If anyone can do it, they can. I think that id already knoews it will have to be more than a "find the key" deal. Even Quake 2 had you going from one section to another to complete tasks to move on. I hope it rocks, and I have faith in the guys that it will.
A Camper: Not nearly enough places to hide in Doom, and there was no sniper rifle -- I hope they fix that. And a graplling hook. And Quad-powered-up-camping-zones.
Fragmaster: I don't know. I'm not expecting much. Hopefully it'll be fun, but I seriously doubt it'll surpass the original.
Hellchick: Honestly? I was disappointed. I wanted to see something radically new from id. But at the same time, I think that if anyone is going to do a new DOOM game, it should be them, and I'm holding out hope that it's going to be everything we expect it to be and more.

What type of mouse do you use for Quake? (submitted by h05til3)

Answer Votes
Percentage

Microsoft Optical mouse.
331
21.8%
High performance ball mouse made for gaming. (Razer, Logitech, etc.)
266
17.5%
Trackball type mouse.
61
4%
Ordinary 3 button ball mouse w/ or w/o scolling wheel.
597
39.3%
Ancient 1 or 2 button ball mouse.
196
12.9%
I have a fear of mice and other small animals, so I don't use one. I answered this poll question with a complex series of archaic keyboard shortcuts.
67
4.4%

Fragmaster: MS Optical Laser Explorer Whatever 2000 System Direct X Mouse. You know, the one with the death dealing laser beam in it.
Hellchick: I use a Logitech Wingman Gaming mouse. I have never loved a peripheral like I love this mouse. If my office were to go up in flames, I would run in and save this mouse, I love it that much.
Spyke: 2 button, baby! And I still pw33n!
Pappy-R: standard Logitech 3 button PS2 with tweaked sample rate for accuracy. Yeah, it does help. RatPadz rock the boat too. Big 'n juicy! (thnx L2P!!)
A Camper: I play with the keyboard. Sometimes I use a gaming pad, or one of those Atari 2600 Pong paddle controllers.

Do you use a joystick to play Quake?

Answer Votes
Percentage

Hell, no! What kind of crazy llama uses a joystick to play Quake?
1069
71.6%
I tried it once, and decided the mouse/keyboard combo was just fine for me.
251
16.8%
Yeah, I play Quake with a joystick all the time! Once you go joystick, you never go back!
31
2%
I didn't even know you could play Quake with a joystick.
141
9.4%

Spyke: I'm going with the 1067 that said "hell no".
Pappy-R: I break joysticks easier than keyboards. Anybody got one from a real F-16 I could try?
A Camper: If I hide here, nobody will find me.
Fragmaster: Blah. I played Quake with a Wacom Tablet once, though. It rocked.
Hellchick: No, but I'd love to try playing Quake with one of those dance pads that you use to play those silly Japanese dancing games on consoles. Strafe by two-stepping!

Space maps or Gothic maps?

Answer Votes
Percentage

Space, baby! I like the danger of falling off the edge...kinda gives me a little thrill.
240
15.8%
Gothic - I like my frags to be on the positive side of the scoreboard.
373
24.6%
Gothic...space...doesn't matter to me, I just like to frag.
392
25.8%
How about a combination of both?
317
20.9%
I don't like either of them! I liked the kind of maps we saw in previous Quakes.
194
12.7%

Fragmaster: It depends. HOW DO YOU LIKE THAT ONE?!?
Spyke: Gothic. Allows for way cool architecture that is spooge-yourself-a-riffic.
Pappy-R: Depends on what I'm playing, but since I like team DM best, gothic. Kinda like Hellchick's Lair!
Hellchick: Yes, Hellchick's Lair...coming to a contest near you...
A Camper: I like the gothic maps. Those big open space maps are very scary. Sometimes I wet myself when leaping from jump pad to jump pad, and there's not enough places to hide. The only good space maps are ones that have a railgun in an enclosed floating bunker.

Guest Poll Submission by Robert Duffy: Is it fair to play the nude Conni model to distract the other team in CTF?

Answer Votes
Percentage

Yes, as long as you're nude when you play this way.
550
36.5%
No, that is entirely not fair! But wait, do it anyway so I can see nudity AND play Quake 3.
222
14.7%
There's a nude Conni model?!
369
24.5%
Who's Conni? Does she look anything like Killcreek?
363
24.1%

Spyke: I use the Christian Antkow model. I think he's distracting enough!
Pappy-R: Boobies!
A Camper: He said boobies.
Fragmaster: Robert Duffy and Patrick Duffy are secret brothers. Say hello to Larry Hagman for me, you perverts!
Hellchick: Spyke, I really didn't know you felt that way about Christian.

Guest Poll Submission by Robert Duffy: What is harder to do, beat Hellchick and Pappy in 2 vs 2, or suck up and send THEM T-Shirts after you lose?

Answer Votes
Percentage

Definitely harder to beat them; they rule.
109
7.3%
If you lose to those two, you need a lot more practice.
389
26.2%
crt must be coding special l33t h4X0r aimbot skillz into the server they're running.
301
20.3%
Neither - it's harder to send it a poll question about it, because now everyone knows that Pappy-R and Hellchick beat Duffy and Eric in 2 vs 2.
681
46%

Fragmaster: Go back to Step By Step.
Hellchick: Alls I'm sayin' is, those t-shirts fit nicely, don't they, Pappy?
Spyke: Send them t-shirts, because they demand the XXXXXL novelty size!
Pappy-R: SpoinK!
A Camper: I've never actually beat anyone at Quake, I'm sure it feels very nice.

What happens when no one sends in any good poll questions?

Answer Votes
Percentage

Hellchick gets very, very angry because she has to come up with original poll questions all on her own.
125
8.3%
Hellchick begins making up poll questions that ask things like, "If you're driving at the speed of light and you turn your headlights on, what do you see?"
287
19.2%
Hellchick begs for people to mail GOOD poll questions to poll@planetquake.com.
39
2.6%
Hellchick has to turn to the id guys and beg them for so-called "guest poll sumissions".
195
13%
Ha! I fooled you! Every answer in this poll question has the word "Hellchick" in it!
61
4%
This one doesn't.
196
13.1%
Oh, damn.
589
39.4%

Spyke: Spyke takes over the poll.
Pappy-R: "You know who" is on the verge of being beaten off the poll. Take that however you like.
Fragmaster: I get punched in the face and blamed since the PQ Poll was originally kinda my idea.
Hellchick: (punches Frags in the face)
A Camper: (punches self in the face by mistake.)

Who are these people anyway?

Hellchick is the PQ Site Director, or at least has convinced her friends that she is.
Pappy-R is PQ's News Jockey and Part-time Table Dancer.
Spyke does the PQ in Review, the PQ Mailbag, and your girlfriend.
Lee'Mon writes articles and editorials for PQ, which means he's really into finding things to complain about.
shaithis is a former PQ Site Director who now spends his days running GameSpy.com and sharpening the spikes on the top of his cubicle. You think we're kidding.
Fragmaster also used to run PQ, and now manages ClassicGaming.com and the console section of the GameSpy network. He also enjoys the occasional potted tuna.
Mynx is our resident advice expert, knowledgeable about all sorts of topics that the rest of us are just too scared to touch.
Tetsuo performs miracles that mere mortals cannot understand as part of the tech team at GameSpy. He also really likes bacon. Even more than Hellchick.
Fargo has been around since the beginning of PQ. He's been known to camp everything, including the poll.
