PQ in Review
Spyke recaps last week and all the things you may have missed! - by Spyke

PQ In Review: I Spy With My Little Eye

Come one, come all, step right up and feast your eyes on the largest spectacle, the grand-daddy of them all, the exposition of the choicest bits of news PlanetQuake and the rest of the Quake world have to offer.. ladies and gentlemen, PQ in Review!

News

The biggest news from PlanetQuake/GameSpy this week was the release of yet another wonderful tool for the community. ArenaSpy is a version of GameSpy3D, our server browser software, that is absolutely freeware, and fits right inside the multiplayer menu in Quake 3 Arena. It's already a hit, it's free, and it's damn useful. So what are you waiting for? Download ArenaSpy, but remember that you need the Quake 3 Arena Point Release first. ArenaSpy is brought to you by coding deity crt. On to the latest happenings here at PQ, the big poop-disturber this week was an editorial by Seka, The Need For Speed, dealing with games and the wonderful upgrades they make us do to our computers. Mynx came to the party once again, with some more wonderful advice. Has she ever failed us? I don't think so. This week's Dear Mynx talked all about nekkid Quake, cross-dressing, and Mynx's butt. Who knew Quakers could be so frickin' weird? I know I'm not. Speaking more about me, my wonderful Mailbag appeared, as usual, on time and full of informative comments from our readers on such topics as Seka's editorial, teamplay mods, and how much they like ArenaSpy. Pappy R and Hellchick get in on the fun, so check it out! This week was an exceptionally proud week for PlanetQuake/GSI, as we dethroned id Software at Q3CTF! Previously unbeaten, our team laid down the pw33nage and wh00ped id something good. Funny, we did it without Fargo playing. Anyways, read about it all right here! I would have joined in on the beatdown, but I was at school.. I played id before though.. I really did.. I even led in frags for a while.. but that doesn't mean anything in CTF. Oh well. LadyICE conducted a massive interview with everyone's favorite nickna.. I mean, skinner, Massive Bitch! Read as LadyICE asks him all about his nick, his skins, and other things that are totally unsuitable for a family column like this. The sister column to my wonderful Mailbag, the TechMailbag had another edition, informing everyone who writes in of exactly what to do to get your Quake game as smooth as Pappy's behind.

Coming Soon

Lots of stuff coming, up, a lot relating to the upcoming mod explosion. We're opening up some sweet new Q3A sites, and there'll be some interviews with the mod teams behind them, so y'all will be gettin' the inside scoop. Love2Play is going to chat with some of these mod monkeys about the technical side of mod authoring. Hellchick's doing a 2 part article on "Quake as Cinema", with an interview with Tritin Films. Add in the regular features, and the other 2 parts of LeeMon's big-ass article, and you've got a lot of lovin' coming very soon!

Question of the Damned

So finally, we have a reader-submitted question! The oh-so-wonderful Jack D wrote in and asked us: "Which PQ staff member is the coolest and why?"

Hellchick:

Oh God, like you people don't know what I'm going to answer. Does anyone doubt the expansiveness of my ego? Will I not certainly say it's me? Well, I won't. It's Pappy-R, of course.

Pappy R:

Can I take the fifth on this one even though as a Canadian we don't have the 5th? If I have to pick just one, I'd to say HC for being the only staff member to have competed in a National event. Spyke has better legs though, and LadyICE could take me in a bar fight.

Spyke:

Well, first off, the answer is me. Why? There are myriad reasons. Everyone knows anything young is cool, and I'm the youngest PQ staff member. I'm hip to tha streetz. I use da lingo. I have many young nubile women following me around. Is that enough?

Remember, if you want to submit a Question of the Damned, as you're completely welcome and encouraged to do, just e-mail me!

Spyke's Profound Thought

So is that ArenaSpy damn cool or what? Kudos to crt, you = theman. Never really being one for team games, I'm really getting into Q3CTF.. probably because it's helluva easier to play CTF without a grapple, or runes, or all that other BS. I'm jonesing for the classic Q2DM maps though. *Sniff* Time to reinstall Quake 2 on my system. I can't live without it any longer. Anyone know if people have converted the Q2DM maps to Q3A yet? I'd love to see The Frag Pipe with curved surfaces instead of all those ugly straight ones. Well, that's enough blabbering. Send in QotDs. S-Dog out. Oh yeah, Happy B-Day to my little brother Lucas. :)

- Spyke
