Don't you love how I work crypticism into the titles for each PQ in Review? There's maybe ten non-Canadians that will get that title. Be careful, we're taking over. Anyways, there's a lot of news this week, tons of stuff that's happened, so let's cut the jibba jabba and get on with the news, foo! And don't you dare break my chain!
Well, related to the title is the big news coming from the Game Developer's Conference; id Software is developing a mission pack for Quake 3 Arena! Not too much is known about this mission pack so far, other than the models are going to be really swank. GameSpy.com snapped some pics of the new models, so check them out along with the rest of GameSpy.com's GDC coverage. On to the PlanetQuake stuff now. Once again, the PQ Poll made an appearance; what is this, like 3 weeks in a row? This has to be a record. Answer questions about maps, tourneys, downloads, and music (including Skinny Puppy!). Also, check out the PQ/GSI crew's witty banter on last week's poll questions. Dear Mynx went retro this week, printing the best of letters where people fantasize about game developers! You didn't think there were that many, did you? You should see the stuff that didn't get printed. This week saw the debut of a swank new feature from myself and Lee'Mon; The Gauntlet is a debate on important issues in gaming; this week we argue about camping vs. sniping. You can also vote in the instapoll, expressing your opinion. I'm currently being whooped 4 to 1. Also related to me, I, without fail, delivered the PQ Mailbag. I go solo this week, bar one response from Hellchick. There's a lot of great letters in there on Lee'Mon's editorial from last week, as well as answers to questions and responses to comments. Well, there was going to be a Friday Frag this week, alas, we just couldn't get stuff up and running. Too bad, I was going to call in and wreak havoc, too. It's all part of the chaos caused by our resident poltergeist/news pimp Pappy R, who, when he visited the GSI offices, caused the network to say "kablooey". First that, then the Shoutcast server. Pappy, please do the world a favour and stay away from people with pacemakers, okay? Finally, this week's TechTips has tons of info on how to spit-shine your Quake 1 experience.
And now for the site launches for the past week. Fragbait Studios is working on SpeedQuake, a speedy mod for Q3A. Elite Squad Arena is a swank looking mod for Q3A with several different gametypes. And finally, Q_Check is a cool plugin for mIRC that works with GameSpy that can tell people where you're playing.
In addition to the usual mods/models/levels of the week, the PQ Poll, Dear Mynx, and the Mailbag, we've got a poopload of stuff coming up. Ash from Fragbait Studios has an editorial on id and the community. Hellchick tells the tale of her 48 straight hours watching "Blue's Clues". A couple interviews coming up as well, with Alliance and DDay. The tale of Pappy R's visit to the GSI offices! And finally, dejected after losing successive CTF games to id, GSI/PQ takes the famed game developers on in a game of beach volleyball.
Question of the Damned
*Sniff* We're deprived of Lee'Mon this week, as he's gone home for spring break. Oh well, no big loss. Seeing as readers are too lazy to send in questions, I was forced to create my own this week, so here it is: "What's the coolest game that's been released using a Quake engine?"
Soldier of Fortune is looking really nice. It used the Q2 engine, and I've played the demo (though not all the way through). I like the realism. Although I imagine the moral majority will be all over it because of the realistic violence.
Half-Life. It feeds my single Player fetish nicely. It also feeds the sick Headcrab fetish I didn't even know I had.
Well I must agree with Pappy, Half-Life r0x0rs.. but I think Heretic II, the game upstaged by Half-Life, was cooler. Raven did an excellent job of a 3rd-person game in the Quake 2 engine, and it's absolutely beautiful, with fantastic level design and superb animation.

Spyke's Profound Thought
Wow, a mission pack for Q3A. This is honestly not what I had expected. I mean, id has never worked on a mission pack themselves; they've always farmed it out to someone else. And what will this mission pack be? More levels/models/gametypes? Or will it be single-player, like has been rumored? It seemed to me like they ruled out a mission pack and had started on a totally new project. Then again, Carmack's been busy doing R&D, so who knows? All I know is that I don't know.. all I know is that I don't know nothing. :)
