PQ in Review
Spyke recaps last week and all the things you may have missed! - by Spyke

PQ In Review: While The Staff's Away, The Spyke Will Play!

Yeah, E3 is this week, and those lucky [grumbles] Hellchick and Lee'Mon get to go. Pappy will be busy organizing his LAN party, so I guess I'll be here by myself! Time to wreak havoc and make with the mad h4x0r4g3! But until then, I must remain quiet. Wait. They'll be reading this, won't they? Aww crap. Well, on with the reviewing!

News

This week kicked off with a great editorial by Plummer, entitled "Roots? You're Talking About the Tree". Plummer delves deep into the beginnings of deathmatch, way back to its inception in Doom, and uses this as a rebuttal to Pirate's previous editorial "Keep Quake Alive!". Definitely a good read, and an excellent history lesson that'll stir up some nostalgic feelings. Pappy R had his hands full this week; apart from pimping the news as he always does, he interviewed the Battle of the Sexes team, getting down and dirty on this upcoming mod. Pappy also busted out with a brand new From the Hardcore Side, all about hosting LANs. And if you thought Pappy would be spent after that, you're so wrong; he's hosting the very first Canadian PlanetQuake event, PapLAN, next week! Once again, the PQ Poll popped its head up, asking us questions about QuakeCon, PQ supremacy, and game shortcuts; of course, the GSI/PQ crew adds their witty commentary to last week's results. This week's Dear Mynx is surely a doozy, fielding questions on vibrator-stealing parents, Q3A boners, and KillCreek pr0n; Name That Game Geek also continues! Yours truly delivered the PQ Mailbag once again, printing letters on Plummer's editorial, Hellchick crushes, and answering important questions! This week's TechTips could prove to be quite useful for some, as it's all about installing Linux and setting it up for gaming purposes!

Coming Soon

Our fearless leader Hellchick will be making the rounds at E3, and promises to get the 411 from id Software on the mission pack, and checking it out once again. An editorial is coming up on good maps, and Pappy will be gracing us with another From the Hardcore Side. Add that to the regular features like Dear Mynx, the Poll, and the Mailbag, and you've got yourself one big week at the Big Fuzzy!

Question of the Damned

I'm beginning to think you people don't love me. No reader-submitted questions this week, so I have to search through the convoluted mess that is my mind to pull out this week's Question of the Damned: "What mod are you most looking forward to (that hasn't come out yet) for Q3A?"

Hellchick:

I'm really looking forward to Urban Terror. I'm a HUGE Action Quake 2 fan, and I will starting threatening people if I don't see a mod that works the same way for Q3A. I'm talking throwing small farm animals here, folks.

Pappy R:

A Mod where I get to sleep, and yet LAN tournaments flow flawlessly. Yes I'm at an event as I answer this one. ROCK!

Lee'Mon:

[chants] W-F-A! W-F-A! W-F-A! W-F-A! [grins] And my own projects, of course... ;^)

Spyke:

Dammit Lee'Mon, why do you always have to remind me of the cool stuff you're doing? Well, I guess now I have a tie on my hands; Milieu is tied with Rocket Arena Q3A. Both are just way too swank.

Remember, if you want to submit a Question of the Damned, just e-mail me!

Spyke's Profound Thought

How long will it be before more sophisticated controllers become readily used in PC games? I mean, there have been weird controllers for console systems, and arcade games are always finding innovative ways to be played, but when do we get that for the PC? I want an R. O. B., or a Game Glove, or one of those stupid pad things, dammit. At the very least, give me a gun; that would kick royal bzooty, but not in an FPS. What are your thoughts on alternative controllers? I'm really interested in this. And remember, nobody expects the Spanish Inquisition.

- Spyke
