Psst.. look behind you.. you're on fire. Curiously enough, we didn't have a whole lot of news this week. I think it has something to do with everyone playing Q3A, and the tools not being out yet. Sure, we had a few models, but as soon as the source code and the map editors come out, we'll be drowning in a sea of new content! Yippie! Ladies and gentlequakers, start your reviewing!
Still carrying over from last week, as this week there wasn't one, we had the return of the PlanetQuake Friday Frag! After the PQFF, we posted the winners of the hurting and the Quaking. They won some swank GameSpy swag, or something like that. Hee hee.. haven't heard that word "swag" in some time, have you? Moving along to articles, our little buddy Doomhammer let us know about losing his virginity in his tale of his first online multiplayer game experience. LadyICE scored big for us this week, getting us our first Model of the Week for Quake 3 Arena! Continuing the trend of CTF mods, our Mod of the Week was Expert CTF, a swank mod for Q2CTF that changes a bunch of shiznit to let you have more fun! Hellchick made me angrier again by not letting me answer the PQ Poll, which asks yet more stupid questions about Q3A. Not! Our beloved mommy Mynx answered more questions dealing with licorice and Paul Steed, as usual. As part of Antibot Day, Dekard interviewed Killerbee and Gizzed, two mad l33t skill3d antibot coders, that keep games safe for you and me! For the fifth week in a row, I faithfully slaved over a hot stove to deliver the PQ Mailbag! Rejoice as I make fun of imbeciles, we pore over the real intelligent mail, and laugh at failed pics! We interviewed id game design god Graeme Devine about an issue we explore further in the QotD later on in this article, the CD-key authorization in Q3A; Graeme served up some interesting responses and reasons why id is utlizing this form of authentication. As always, we had some swank Levels of the Week for Quake 1 and 2. Don't forget, the tools are coming out very soon, so it shouldn't be long before we see Quake 3 Arena user-made levels! Woo hoo! We debuted a very interesting new hosted site this week. The Can has some of the neato-est (is that a word) levels I've ever seen, definitely check them out. On Saturday, as I write this, the TechMailbag, my sister publication, is going up, talking all about tweaks you can make to your system to get those wonderful Quake games to run better! And yes, for those of you who are wondering, all 2 of you (see you at school on Monday!), I still don't have Quake 3 Arena. Soon, my friends.. soon.
The fabled "new era" (read: PQ redesign) heralded in the now-infamous Flash presentation is coming.. soon. Before Christmas is all I'm allowed to say. It's gonna look damn cool. See the redesigns at Planet(ugh)HalfLife, PlanetUnreal and all those sites? It'll be like that, but way cooler. It will allow for mass pimping of Quake 3 Arena content, including the monolithic (not to be confused with Monolith) Q3A Guide that Hellchick has been busting her ass on. We'll also have a bunch of hosted sites LadyICE has been busting her ass working with, bringing you the very best in Q3A content! Next week, Hellchick's bragging about another Friday Frag. Apparently she's going to go it alone this time, but I think yours truly might have to call in to increase the fun and mayhem factor.
Question of the Damned
Our question today comes from my special little pal; I think you may have heard of her, her name's Hellchick. Anyways, Hellchick asks: "What do you think of the CD-key authorization for Quake 3 Arena?"
I admit that while in the past I've never gone out and actively pirated software, if a friend gives me a copy, I take it. I think that companies have every right to protect against piracy, and so I don't fault id in the least for doing it. I do think, however, that eventually someone's going to find out how to get around the Q3A CD key, and when that happens, it may affect the consumer a lot more than anyone planned. Unless it's Jeff K.
I think it's GREAT and hasn't caused me any problems thus far. It's funny how only those that wanna pirate the game have bitched to me. Guess what kids, if ya wanna play it, BUY IT!
It sux0rs big time. I mean, I can still burn the CD for all of my friends, but now they will have a harder time pw33ning everyone online, because they have to find their own CD-key because I'm not going to give them mine. I think id is stupid for putting that in, and we should all boycott them. By the way, if you want a pirated copy of Q3A, e-mail me!
Just a note to id, my response was a joke.. Please don't sic your legal brigade on me.. I'm only trying to be funny. Mugwum's the one you want, trust me. He's also a leader of a Colombian drug cartel!
Spyke's Profound Thought
A lot of you people like Unreal Tournament. Too much. Unreal is bad, m'kay? Last week, I asked you people what game PlanetQuake should beat PlanetHalfLife down at. Many answers were submitted, about 95% of them saying "Unreal Tournament". A few others said Doom, or even Duke3D. Those would work, except for the fact that I don't have a modem. Anyways, it seems Mugwum and Hellchick have already had at it. Next, it will be my turn, and I will avenge my revenge, or something like that. After the gigantic volume of e-mail I got last week, I don't need too much more, but it's nice anyways.
