The Good News
thx for the tips on http://www.planetquake.com/features/techtips/techtips000101_a.shtml
i now get 72.1 fps in timedemo on both demos those few settings
seemed to do a lot
i just read your q3 tweaks article, well i dunno how to say
this but, i tried the v3 autoexec cfg and my fps went from
an average of 30-40 [in game with draw fps] to 60 - 80. THANKS!
The q3 config for Nvidia
I have been futzing around with my config for a week. This
is the first time I've seen things explained without a whole
bunch of "tech-chat". It was something a non-programmer could
understand and use...immediately. Having it available for
d/l was a nice touch! I modified the config slightly and lost
a few FPS but still better than what I had done on my own
and advice from other "experts". Thanks! [CN]Twist
We love to hear when things are going good for everyone!
No need for the exterminator?
cd-key authorization is NO bug
reference to the CD key issue. I must disagree. It is NOT
a game bug, at least in my experience. I have three copies
of Q3A (a cardboard to play with, two tins, one still sealed
for collecting) and I've tried all three CD-Keys and they
all work, and when I typed them in, I went over them twice
to make sure they were right, and in lower case, and they've
all worked. I've never seen an authorization error when I've
enter a CD key. To extend this, I've also helped a dozen difference
people in person, and when I type it in, I take great care
to do it, and it's worked every time. It's always been a typo.
I've helped about fifty different people via email and such,
and after going through it up to five and six times, when
I tell them to do it again, in lower case, and check it twice,
it's worked. Again, all typos.
there IS a problem when a fragmented TCP packet gets mishandled
and the auth server gets half the umber or something, and
I'll have them do it again, and it goes through, but I have
yet to find anything in the game or server that has been the
problem. I have found a couple people who gave a friend their
.cfg file and wound up giving their CD keys too. Once we coordinated
everyone reentering their own CD key, things went ok for everyone.
But again, I've yet to find a CD key bug in the game. For
some reason, people are just having a hard time entering their
the part about the CD key having to be in lower case, that's
a bug, since it's not documented anywhere. --
myself have not had any experience with the cd-key failing
authorization. However, that does NOT lead me to believe that
hundreds of people out there can't type. As early as Thursday,
January 6th I met someone who had a problem with it in our
chatroom. He had been playing Quake III and all was good.
Then he installed some mods and now his cd-key was suffering
from the failure nightmare. That had nothing to do with him
typing it in. It worked, and then after an isntall of new
mods, it doesn't. So there is more to the story on the cd-key
authorization failure than typing in the wrong letters or
don't think id Software will be rushing the theory that all
those users they have been helping through e-mail and telephone
calls are all morons who mistyped their cd-key. But maybe
jesusX knows something from a higher source? haha
Some people just missed it
new to online gaming, and would like to know if lowering the
resolution and details will help the online gaming speed.Playing
single player I get excellent framerate(as high as 100 fps
,800x600 16bit and max details) however online my frame rate
is high but when I fire my weapon there is considerable lag
- I use a 56k modem
How to tweak my comp for Quake3
have a P2 450 with 128Megs Ram and a Diammond Viper770 Ultra
card i was wondering if the detonator drivers will work with
this and the Autoexec that you have on your page for download
i know my FPS isnt as high as it should be and i need the
console commands to check my FPS once i have used the new
drivers (if possible) and the new Autoexec. thanx, eric
both Bazza and Eric I say: Have you seen the last Techtips?!
C'mon, guys! I hand fed you an autoexec.cfg and covered the
whole drivers issue there and in previous Techtips. Take the
plunge! Go for it! Yes, lowering the resolution and detail
helps, that was the point of the graphic changes in the autoexec.cfg.
And it is for online play that we specialize our autoexec.cfg
so that you will have reduced lag and smoother gameplay. Try
it out, Bazza. Eric, the Detonator drivers are excellent and
the way to do a timedemo was provided to you in the column.
Now go, you two...tweak!
