Subject: Quake 3 and Point Release 1.25
I don't know if its my setup or just the patch, but since I installed the v1.25 patch I can't get any mods to
My PC Spec is
AMD Athlon 700, 192Mb Ram, Creative Ge-Force 2 GTS, Creative SB 1024 Live Player. I don't really know what the problem is but everytime I start the
mod then select multiplayer, create, select the map then start the game just jumps back to the original Q3 menu. If you can help or know of somewhere
else that can I would be most grateful
Sorry to have to tell you this Jonathon, none of the mods will work with Point Release 1.25 because it is not
backwards compatible to 1.17 and the source code for 1.25 was not released so the mods could not be changed to accomodate 1.25. The mods are still
running Point Release 1.17.
My suggestion to users that have the space is to install Quake 3 Arena again, in another location and install the
Point Release 1.25 to that copy. Then keeping the other one at 1.17. This way you are able to play any and all servers running.
Subject: Quake 3 Demo
I just downloaded a quake 3 demo from you guys and it wont run, it just freezes my computer. Is this because I
have windows 2000 professional, please help me. I want to be able to run this.
P.S. If I can get it to run, im going to buy the game, will that run on my computer?
Brendan, there can be many reasons that your computer freezes when you start the demo. While my first instinct
is to remind you Win2k is a business OS not a multimedia OS like Win98, I also know that Quake 3 DOES run on Win2k, although not as purty as on Win98.
The most important thing you need to have is OpenGL driver for your video card for Win2k. Take a look at Reactor
Critical for the most current drivers. Other than that, I will use this as an opportunity to remind our readers that unless you let us in on
what computer specs you have, we will have to rely on our psychic abilities to help you :)
Subject: Protocol 45
Often...on over half the servers I try to connect...I get a message saying "server uses protocol 45" and
I wait for a connection that never connects. I have the latest version of q3 (1.25). Can you help me!?
Point Release 1.25 is protocol 46. Point Release 1.17 is protocol 45. Now I refer you to the above answer to
Jonathon and that one is not playable on the other. And the limitation you will have of playing only standard games with Point Release 1.25.
If you want to be able to distinguish between the protocols when you play online and choose a server, I recommend GameSpy
Arcade or GameSpy 3D. Both have the ability to filter games by version. Then you will
be able to list only one Point Release or the other on a list of servers.
Subject: Making Models
How can I go about creating my own models? What software do I need??
Thanks for your time,
It really does depends on which Quake you are talking about. And undertand that the model is the wire frame of
your player, the skin is the outside "covering". SOme people prefer to use tools like Paint Shop Pro or 3D Studio Max. There are
also tools made specifically for modeling.
The best resource for modeling needs is Polycount. There you can look at their
resources by what game you want to make a model for.
