:: AUDI TT

As an exercise to learn 3dsmax I decided to model one of my favourite cars; Audi's excellent TT. The original inspiration came from seeing some of the high quality models that Thomas Suurland has on his website. After getting hold of the blueprints I tried to model the vehicle using lines and curved surfaces but this proved extremely difficult to get the panels to line up correctly. Disheartened I gave up and went to do some Quake III mapping instead :-)

A few weeks later my house mate was talking to Thomas in IRC and found out one of techniques he uses. It involves starting with a simple plane and then shaping and extruding the edges, splitting where necessary using Meshtools scripts. I gave this a try and found it to be much easier. I was amazed at how much easier it was and managed to get the basic shape created in a few hours.

Currently I am still tweaking various parts of the model to get the shape just right and the seams looking tidy. I am also adding smaller details and modelling the interior of the car.
